OPENING TONIGHT!! Nearing Paradise: Paintings by Matthew Farina Opening Reception TONIGHT, Thursday, September 12th from 6:00 - 8:00.PM .... . the show runs September 12 - October 1 . . . . Matthew Farina’s paintings are energetic, gestural expressions that celebrate color and mark making. His latest work captures the experience of being immersed in a lush, imagined landscape, often one with no discernable horizon line. Through the careful use of color, visceral paint handling and dynamic compositions, his paintings make tangible the essence of light and movement. See more

WYSIWYG, And Other Worldly Narratives This collection of recent works from Dev Harlan shows the artist’s diverse interests and wide range of materials and methods. His practice traverses from traditional casting and sculpture to digital media, 3D printing and custom software. Dev has investigated the subject of landscape though traditional photography, 3D scanning and molding found surfaces. In Iron Age Wonder Valley with Projection two thin surface castings of natural ston...e balance against each other. The surfaces are reproductions of natural rock face found at the site of an abandoned iron mine in Wonder Valley, CA. The reverse sides are illuminated with video projection. The moving marbled textures are derived from 3D scan data of the site manipulated using custom real-time software. Dev has also been examining landscape and the territorialization of nature in the expanded context of all planets in the solar system. In a work of speculative fiction Gale Crater with Bingham Canyon Copper Mine he reproduces a section of the surface of Mars with the famous 4 mile Utah strip mine extracted from its surface. Here the irreversible impacts of industrial capital are considered in a place still undisturbed by human concerns.

New Paintings by Laura Mosquera, an Artsy Online Exclusive Laura Mosquera uses the physical shape of the canvas to depict a psychological or emotional experience or feeling. The relationships of the shapes within the painting are dynamic and can push, pierce and bounce against each other, defining themselves and how they relate to one another. Some shapes within a painting can be twisted or bent within the composition, but find a path to exist in a beautiful way. Like a problem creating and solving process, she pieces the shapes together to become a cohesive whole of interesting complexity.

OBJECTS AND FIGURES is a series of small sculptures and watercolors by Marc A. Dessauvage, @marcdessauvage that explores a spectrum from objecthood to figuration @ARTSY The objects range from representations of scaled monuments, such as vaults and pyramids, to everyday items, such as bottles and pots. While some objects are presented as resolutely geometric, others are elusive and dynamic in their blobby deformations. In their lack of a defined scale the plaster objects re...ad both as objects in a still life and as architectural structures. The figures are watercolors of angels encountering an object. Here, the object is externalized, and the watercolors reflect a narrative that mirrors the viewer’s investigations. The objects are presented to the angel as both familiar and foreign, prompting sequences of various relationships of figure to object.
