The officers and members of the Columbian Engine Company No. 1, of the Spring Valley Fire Department, sadly announce the line of duty death of Firefighter Jared... Calvin Lloyd. Firefighter Lloyd was one the first to arrive on the scene of a structure fire at the Evergreen Court Home for Adults; an effort that would eventually involve over 150 firefighters from 4 counties. Firefighter Lloyd was in the process of searching for and rescuing trapped residents and is credited with saving multiple victims . At a certain point, Jared became trapped himself. Firefighter Lloyd radioed in a mayday call and his brother firefighters immediately attempted to locate and extricate him but were unsuccessful before the building suffered a catastrophic collapse. After searching for over 18 hours straight, state and local emergency service personnel located Firefighter Lloyd’s body at 2350 hours on March 23rd. Jared Lloyd gave his life in service to others, but more importantly, he lived his life in service to others. He was a member of the company for 16 years. He served as an engineer, as a second lieutenant and first lieutenant among many leadership positions in the company. He attended Spring Valley High School and played as a linebacker on the varsity football team. He was a loving father to his two sons, an avid golfer and bowler and a die hard Mets fan; never losing the faith. He was a friend, a leader, a brother, a Columbian. Rest easy bub, we got it from here. Donations to the Lloyd family can be submitted here ( https://gofund.me/19e3c82a ),100% of the proceeds are going to Jared's sons.

Heavy rain and warm temperatures will melt quite a bit of the snow pack Thursday through Christmas morning. Strong winds will also speed up the snow melt. The... warmest temperatures in the 50s, maybe even near 60 in some places, and the heaviest rain will be during the night. Rainfall of 1.5 to 3+ inches of rain in addition to the snow melt will cause flooding in some areas. There is an elevated flood threat, especially along area rivers, and where ice and snow may be blocking or redirecting rain and snow melt runoff. Please be ready to move to higher ground if flood and flash flood warnings are issued. See more

Winter Weather Awareness Week New York & New England November 1 to November 7 When driving, allow extra time to get to your destination. Keep extra distance bet...ween you and other vehicles and slow down on ice or snow covered roads. If possible, avoid travel during winter storms. If you get stuck in your car during a winter storm, stay there. You are more likely to be rescued from your vehicle than from a barn or other uninhabited, out of the way building.
