Looking for ways to help crews take their minds off the daily physical toll of COVID 19 on top of normal call volume. We quietly posted these giant coloring posters and left pencils to see what would happen. There is one at each base and we cannot wait to compare all three to see what will become. A small way to take their minds to a nice place for a brief moment on busy shifts. We will be looking for more ideas in the coming weeks. AmandaJo Young, John Griffiths and John Roman.

Gates Volunteer Ambulance Service, Inc. 23.11.2020

As many rise this Christmas Eve morning, the events that unfolded on 12/24/12 at 05:30 in the small fire district of West Webster NY will be with us in our hearts. Forever changed by this event. The first responder community is smaller than many know. Many of our comrades in service were dispatched to this event, worked the radios or are in some way are connected to Michael Chiapperini of WWF and WPD, Tomasz Kaczowka WWFD and ECD 911, Joseph Hofstetter WWFD and RFD, Theodore ...Scardino WWFD and Jon Ritter GPD, by service or friendship. Please bow you head in honor and say a prayer for the fallen. Surround the survivors with strength and love. Hold your loved ones closer, tighter and a little longer in their honor. Gates Ambulance joins in honoring these men today. Please consider a random act of kindness to someone today in honor of a first responder who went on a call that became their last alarm. And is still active with us today. He has filled many roles over the years and is a dedicated member of our team. Our "go to guy" for all things electrical or building maintenance. He stops in daily to check on everyone and can be heard coming with his trademark whistle. Jerry has a love of classic cars an...d model trains with a train collection that would rival any other. Jerry recently moved to Greece (right at the border so we still consider him in Gates) after raising a beautiful family with many grandchildren and great grand children he decided to downsize. The Face Behind The Mask; Ashley Johnson - EMT. Ashley joined our team in 2019. She is a dedicated hard worker who will never say no to any task. She enjoys being busy and taking calls for help to our community. Covid19 is no match for Ashley! She has had multiple uniforms replaced due to bleach. That's ok by us though, we know she is going above and beyond to ensure her patients and co workers are as safe as possible. Ashley is a quiet one around base, but alway listening an...d asking her peers what can I do better?. She strives to improve her patient care each and every call by reviewing if she could have done anything different. Her care and compassion are second to none and she will stand up and make herself heard if she feels she needs to advocate for her patient. So is she "quiet"?, yes she is. When she needs to be heard, fear not you will hear her! We love that quality about her, she truly loves caring for her patients and helping her ALS partners when needed. We are proud to have her on our team to help you! Thank you for your service to the Town of Gates, Spencerport, Ogden and Parma. See more
