During my 2018 visit to the Long Island History Room of the Glen Cove Library I came across a plat map showing Thompson Park, including the improved lot of Edwa...rd & Mary Nixon Donaldson, my great grandparents. I was struck by the bits in the northeast corner of the property identified as "Fire Dep't Co. No.4". Yesterday I found out why from the GCFD's website: "At a meeting held on June 6, 1914, at the home of Edward Donaldson of Thompson Park, an organization was formed called 'The Mutual Protective Association of South Glen Cove'. A letter from the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Glen Cove Fire Department was received stating that our request to join the GCFD was granted with the following stipulation; the Association would be under the direct charge of the Glen Cove Fire Department and will be known as 'Auxiliary Company #4'."
