I have often been asked to explain how graphics work from camera and scanner to computer and the WWW, but the answers are too long and complicated for most people to absorb. This is probably the best explanation I have found in terms of simplicity for the average person to digest. From here you can ask questions more specific to your needs, but this is a great starting point...

I recently received several threatening emails with the subject line of "Your password is xxxxxxxx". In the body of the email it says "xxxxxxxx one of your passphrase. actually, I placed a malware on the xxx vids (sex sites) site & guess what, you visited this web site to have fun. While you were viewing videos, your web browser started working as a Remote Desktop having a keylogger which gave me accessibility to your display and also cam. Just after that, my software collec...ted all your contacts from your Messenger, social networks, and email . After that I made a double video. 1st part displays the video you were viewing, and next part shows the view of your web camera, yea its you. You have got 1 solution to give me $991. I will think of it as a donation. However, if I receive the payment, I will erase the recording immediately. You will make the payment through Bitcoin (search for "how to buy bitcoin" in Google). BTC Address: 38qd7feaW41KBwAQvWQN6rS3ULN5NWTrLa You have one day in order to pay. If I do not get the BitCoins, I will definately send your video to all of your contacts." The password they included was not xxxxxxxx, it really was one of the passwords I have used on low security sites like Yelp or Pandora, but not on any website where I do business such as buying or selling or banking. The email did not scare me at all because I don't ever view or search for pornography. Also, any computer I use that has a cam, it is taped over and disabled in device manager. Same goes for the mic if it exists. Also, a keylogger records keystrokes but does not give access to the devices attached to the computer, and, I would have to allow a keylogger to be downloaded and installed, which can't happen without my permission. So, you may wonder how they got hold of a password I used and how did they get my email address? The most likely explanation is through a data breach of a website where I registered and used that password. I am not worried in the least, but wanted to share this so you won't worry too much if it happens to you, unless the password they got is one you use with websites where you do business or banking. If that is the case, you must go to all your business websites and change the password, but either way, you can ignore the ransom request.

Can you believe this crap? Now you will have to be careful NOT to buy a TV that comes with a Mic or camera. Why on earth does a TV need either of these? Seriously, if your TV has a camera or mic, put a band-aid over it.

I'm seeking a geek, like myself with years of generalist experience. Someone who knows as much or perhaps a little more in some areas for the purpose of collaboration and camaraderie. It's lonely at the top!
