Beryl has given us some of nature's most fascinating gemstones. Colorless in its pure form, beryl has some beautiful varieties that instantly remind us of natureaquamarine that hints us of the sea, and emerald that reminds us of lush green trees and spring. Emerald, the most popular green gemstone of the world, is the birthstone for those born in May. What makes an emerald different from green beryl is the presence of chromium within the stone, its color tone, and saturatio...n. Only expert gemologists can tell the difference, and therefore it is always recommended to purchase a gemstone with a report that reveals essential details about the stone. Due to their formation geology, eye-clean emeralds are rare. Emerald is known for its garden of inclusions, which are nature's fingerprints. The inclusions consist of fluids, fissures, and tiny crystals trapped inside the gem, which may not affect its transparency. The princess cut features a straight sided rectangular outline with a modified brilliant-style facet arrangement. It is a hybrid cutting style that produces more sparkle than traditional brilliant-cut square or rectangular diamonds. In 2020, Seattle-based personal jewelry curator/private buyer Todd Oliver and his partner Craig Vicens dealt with 2020’s jewelry trade show moratorium quite creatively. Our business has always been largely trade show driven. Oliver relates, So we pivoted during the first lockdown and metaphorically brought the trade shows to our clients. We and the jewelry designers we work with periodically prepared carefully edited trunk shows of approximately 50 pieces or so for client...s throughout 2020 and presented them in a socially distant way that kept us all safe and relaxed. The Art Deco era was a heady time of high society events and grandeur that permeated every aspect of life. For the wealthy, it was a time of great architecture, outstanding fashions, and incredible jewelry and accessories. The Roaring Twenties brought about a new expression that led from the florals of Nouveau to a stunning period of geometrics and elegance. Today, top watch brands emulate the look of art-deco inspired watches that make dramatic statements upon the wrist. #GemologicalScienceInternational #GSICertified #GSI #GSICertification #Gemstone #Jewelry #Gemstones #DesignerJewelry #GemLab #GemstoneTesting #GemstoneGrading #Gemology #Gemologist #ColorGemstones #Diamonds #Sparkle #FashionJewelry #Bling #DiamondsAreForever #ColorCutClarityCaratWeight #ArtDeco #SecretWatches #WatchJewelry

Tourmaline, one of the birthstone for the October-born, is coveted in the gemstone world for its extraordinary range of colors. The exciting colors of tourmaline are due to different trace elements like calcium, chromium, fluorine, magnesium, manganese, iron, sodium, and vanadium in its crystal system. Tourmalines are of several varieties, and each type has a different trade name based on its colors; rubellite (pink or hues of red), indicolite (blue), achroite (colorless), dr...avites (yellowish-brown), chrome (intense green), schorl (black), among others. Tourmaline is also known for pleochroism, a property where the tourmaline crystal's color varies when viewed through different angles. To check the color's depth in a tourmaline crystal, always look down the crystal's length. Positioning a rough tourmaline correctly is vital during its cutting process to get the desired depth in color. An "ultra-rare" purple-pink diamond will be auctioned at Sotheby's in Switzerland next month, and is estimated that it could fetch up to $38 million. The 14.83-carat stone was discovered in a mine in northeast Russia approximately three years ago. Taking its name from the 1911 Russian ballet "Le Spectre de la rose," the jewel was cut from an even larger rough diamond unearthed by the mining company Alrosa in 2017. Initially weighing 27.85 carats, this rare find was believed t...o be the largest pink crystal ever unearthed in the country. According to the chairman of Sotheby's jewelry division, the diamond's rarity is a result of its size and color, which has been graded as "Fancy Vivid Purple-Pink." The jewel has also been classified as "internally flawless," a measure of its clarity, while the stone belongs to a rare subgroup of diamonds that contain little to no nitrogen. Born in 1885, the famed jeweler Raymond Yard began his career at age 13 as an errand boy for Marcus & Co. at their Manhattan boutique. Over the course of 20 years’ of service, Yard became the firm’s most sought-after salesman, renowned for his honesty and knowledge. Eventually, John D. Rockefeller Jr.one of the world’s wealthiest men at the timeadvised Yard to go it alone, and in 1922 he opened his first store on Fifth Avenue. Yard gained a reputation for using exquisite me...tals and superlative stones. Yard’s earliest work took Art Deco designs to new heights. By carefully selecting geometric-cut colored stones in combination with step and brilliant cut diamonds, he created unique arrangements that spoke to the tastemakers of the 1920s and 30s. Memorable designs included a popular rabbit character, who often wears a bow tie and carries either cocktails or golf clubs. #GemologicalScienceInternational #GSICertified #GSI #GSICertification #Gemstone #Jewelry #Gemstones #DesignerJewelry #GemLab #GemstoneTesting #GemstoneGrading #Gemology #Gemologist #ColorGemstones #Diamonds #Sparkle #FashionJewelry #Bling #DiamondsAreForever #ColorCutClarityCaratWeight #RaymondYard #FamousJewelers #ArtDeco #JewelryDesigner #Rabbit

Elsa Peretti’s jewelry design career grew out of her travels as a model in the late 60s and early 70s, when she was a muse to Helmut Newton and Halston. In 1974, she joined Tiffany & Co., and her sculptural pieces quickly became signatures of the jewelry house. That same year, Peretti traveled throughout Jaipur, India, and the city’s glittering light inspired her to begin designing with mesh. Halston debuted a gold mesh bra and scarf designed by Peretti for Tiffany in his fal...l 1975 runway collection, which she produced on old machinery that had been used to make handbags in fine metal netting and chain mail in the early 20th century. Free-form and fluid, it contours like fabric around the neck, with diamonds that resemble droplets of dew. Tiffany’s 2020 iteration is made of yellow gold, dotted with 66 hand-set diamonds and totaling 3.72 carats. #GemologicalScienceInternational #GSICertified #GSI #GSICertification #Gemstone #Jewelry #Gemstones #DesignerJewelry #GemLab #GemstoneTesting #GemstoneGrading #Gemology #Gemologist #ColorGemstones #Diamonds #Sparkle #FashionJewelry #ElsaPeretti #Tiffanys #GoldMesh #Collar #Necklace #Showpiece

Opal, one of the birthstones for those born in October, is highly prized for its rainbow iridescence and white to dark gem body-color. The popular play-of-colors and shifting flashes of rainbow hues of an opal stone is an optical phenomenon from the stone's light interaction. Precious opal is amorphous, which means it lacks a stable structure like other crystal-structured gems. Opal consists of tiny silica spheres, and when the silica spheres are arranged in a line within th...e structure, the light bends when it enters the stone, diffracting and breaking into the colors of a spectrum. This exceptional property makes the precious opal a preferred jewelry choice. Opal is brittle, and since it can break or chip easily, one should be very careful while handling this beautiful gemstone.
