JavaScript is one of the most powerful tools for creating modern software, but no approach is without its idiosyncrasies. One of the fundamentals of JavaScript is that it is single-threaded, meaning that two pieces of code cannot run at the same time. If we call a function, we expect it to run to completion, blocking any other code from running. This presents challenges for any task where you need to wait for something to happen (for example, waiting for an API response). If ...you are curious how you can pause a function in JavaScript without blocking the execution of other code, check out our latest blog post, a deep dive on generators from Alice Kallaugher. Released with ES6, generators offer a powerful way to write asynchronous code in a linear, straightforward fashion. Click through to learn more about what generators are and how to use them, and to discover some additional resources to take the next step in using generators in your work. https://www.giantmachines.com//an-introduction-to-javascri #javascript #generators #redux #software #engineering

A couple of Giant Machinists, CJ Lengua and Emre Cumali, recently met to talk about what sets great code apart. Of course your UI needs to work--that's just table stakes. But what else makes code "great"? For one thing, it isn’t just about delivering something great today. It’s about delivering something great with an eye on sustainability. When it comes to software, that means building Version 1 with future versions in mind. In our latest blog post, Emre shares some of the ...wisdom he's amassed over his career as a software engineer. At Giant Machines, our engineers are always honing their craft. This often includes fun ways to expand their skillsets through creative outlets. Giant Machinist Kevin Maes attended FullStackFest 2019, organized by Codegram Technologies, and delivered a lightning talk on a newfound hobby of his: algorithmic maze generation. It's just the latest chapter in Kevin's longstanding affinity for discovery and experimentation.
