Ribbs competed in many forms of auto racing including the Trans-Am Series, Indy Car, Champ car, IMSA the NASCAR Cup Series and Gander Outdoors Truck Series. Founded by Johnnie Walker heir Rob Walker (1917-2002) in 1953, the team became F1's most successful privateer in history, being the first and (along with Giancarlo Baghetti´s team FISA) only entrant to win a World Championship Formula One Grand Prix without ever building their own car. He competed in 47 World Championship Grands Prix, achieving one win, 13 podium finishes and 89 career points. Fate struck a cruel blow when it claimed the life of this talented Frenchman at the 1973 US Grand Prix in WatkinsGlen, for he was poised to assume Jacki...e Stewart's role as Tyrrell team leader and thus make a bid to become the first French World Champion. He was the first driver to win a Formula One World Championship with the Williams team, becoming the 1980 World Drivers' Champion and the second Australian to do so following triple World Champion Sir Jack Brabham. He competed in a total of 117 Grands Prix, winning 12 and achieving 24 podium finishes.... In 1978 Jones won the Can-Am championship driving a Lola.
