Join Byron Nilsson and Malcom Kogut, for a Tom Lehrer birthday tribute, in a live performance at Caffe Lena on April 9 or live streamed. Pianist Malcolm Kogut and Byron Nilsson have put together a program that includes many of the Lehrer songs you know and wish you didn’t, along with a number of them you may never have heard before and will be glad you did. The best part is that’Caffè Lena will be allowing 24 protocol-following people in the audience. But you also have the ...option to watch from home, as it will be livestreamed in excellent quality. It is a rare treat for us to pay this kind of tribute to a talent who probably wishes we’d just leave him alone, but there’s no getting around it from Poisoning Pigeons in the Park to Pollution to The Masochism Tango, Lehrer had his fingers on the pulse of America’s guilt and neuroses. And he had a tender side, as you’ll hear in The Love Song of the Physical Anthropologist. The performance begins at 8 PM EDT. https://fb.me/e/UazVjcnw

The Glen Union Free School was a consolidated school constructed in 1884, located on Union Street in Fultonville, town of Glen. Does anyone know which building ...might have been called Edwards’ Hall in the hamlet of Glen? Thomas Denison was a prolific writer of school pageants and plays during the 1880s, Hans Von Smash, a farce, being a popular one. The only excerpt I found so far is a line from Mary: I see you don't understand. The chores are feeding the horses and hogs and driving up the cows. Lizzie M. Quackenbush played Mary Batch. Familiar area names are listed among those performing recitations, speeches and as characters in the play. For example, Florence Edwards, Glen and Mary Edward’s daughter, presented The Polish Boy in the contest for a speaking prize.
