Glens Falls Area Baseball Society and Hall of Fame 11.12.2020

Take a look at this extremely cool baseball recently acquired by Earl Potter of South Glens Falls! Did a bit of research and found out the ball was used in a tournament game between the NY Big Gorhams, dubbed the "Best black team of the 19th century," and a squad from Glens Falls in 1891. NY went an amazing 100-4 that season with one of their four losses coming at the hands of Glens Falls on July 16 of that year, 6-4! Visit the Baseball Fever website at https://www.baseball-fever.com//the-negro-leagues/52861-18 to learn more about the Big Gorhams. Congratulations and enjoy the ball, Earl!

Terrific article by our friend, Michael Hauser, about the life and baseball career of GFABBS Hall of Famer Pat Salerno, Sr.! The former Brooklyn Dodgers farmhand and patriarch of New York’s first family of deer hunting, Pat is an amazing man with an incredible life and legacy and we think you’ll really enjoy the read!

Thanks to John Brodt for calling this to my attention! Rey Palacios, a member of the 1986 Glens Falls Tigers, will be appearing at this event!

Check out this very interesting article about the advent of semi-pro baseball in Ticonderoga by writer Maury D. Thompson. The article is the first in a series which will culminate with a presentation in the spring. Great work, Maury!
