Until we can resume meeting in person, Golden Link is still hosting virtual sing-arounds on zoom. It's not the same as seeing each other face-to-face, but we can still keep the music going! Every Tuesday evening at 7:30 pm (EDT). Visit our website for complete details. https://www.goldenlink.org/content.aspx

Golden Link seeks your feedback on attending live performances As the region starts to look at reopening venues, the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) has put together a brief online survey to gather input on the conditions under which our audiences will feel comfortable returning to live in-person performances. Golden Link is one of the participating organizations in this survey. On Question #1, please select Golden Link so we can get the results from our audience.... The survey asks things like when you think you’ll be ready to attend live concerts again and to identify the cautionary measures that are important for you to attend a live in-person concert. Please take a few minutes and fill out the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PDJZ9PW Please respond by May 5. We appreciate your feedback! Golden Link Folk Singing Society Sounding Board

Learning Sea Chanteys: Landlubbers Welcome Presenter: Stuart Markus, Zoom Presentation Thursday, April 15, 7-8:30 p.m. Fee: $10 (Reservations due by Tuesday, April 13 at goldenlink.org/workshops)... Hey ho, we’re bound for a workshop to learn sea chanteys and maritime ballads. Stuart Markus, a lover of history and all things maritime, is half of the sea chantey duo The Royal Yard, and one-third of Gathering Time, a folk-rock /Americana harmony group that has performed for Golden Link. Raised in Rochester, Stuart has been a fixture on Long Island's folk and acoustic scene since the mid-1990s, and serves on the board of the Folk Music Society of Huntington. A lifelong small boat sailor, he made his first voyage on a tall ship in OpSail '92 as a trainee on the HMS Rosea replica of a 1757 British frigate (and which appeared as Russell Crowe's ship in the movie Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World). He has volunteered at South St. Seaport Museum in New York City, helping restore the Cape Horn Clipper RMS Wavertree, which he sailed during OpSail 2000. More information is available at stumarkusmusic.com. Stuart has been performing traditional nautical music since 1998. After the workshop you’ll no doubt know sea chanteys from nautical ballads from forebitters, and understand what on earth (or sea) sailors were singing about and why. Be sure to pre-register by Tuesday, April 13, at goldenlink.org/workshops. Golden Link will send you a Zoom invite April 14. We will begin admitting people 10-15 minutes early on April 15. Questions may be directed to [email protected].

Thanks to everyone who attended the John McCutcheon concert tonight! What a wonderful evening of music and stories. Golden Link was pleased to be one of the nine organizations presenting the concert on Mandolin. A great way to connect our community! And we may not have heard all the instruments that were in his studio - like the Cajun accordion and the Swedish nyckelharpa - but John played a good variety. He also introduced us to other musicians who were guests on the concert - Tim O'Brien, Jake Blount, Sam Gleaves, and Rising Appalachia. If you missed this concert, he'll be doing another on Valentine's Day. https://www.folkmusic.com/

Tonight at 7:30 pm! Folk music’s renaissance man John McCutcheon does a live concert through the live-streaming service Mandolin. Roots & Wings features a mix of traditional songs and John’s own songs. There’s a campfire Q&A after the music, and maybe a special guest or two. If you've seen him before, you know why The Oakland Tribune says, John McCutcheon is the Bruce Springsteen of Folk Music a national treasure!
