Gould Memorial Library

Stanford White's admiration for Roman architecture is imprinted on all the elements of this unique monument. Architect Of New York University's Gould Memorial Library, White placed, above its entrance pediment, his tribute to Roman architecture and to Minerva, the goddess of handicrafts, the professions, and the arts. She was commonly identified with the Greek Athena. Her shrine, on the Aventine, in Rome was a meeting place for guilds of craftsmen, including at one time dramatic poets and actors.

GOULD MEMORIAL LIBRARY IS GETTING A NEW CUPOLA.OVER 120 YEARS OF WEATHER HAS MADE THE ROOF POROUS. THE RENOVATION SHOULD BE READY NEXT YEAR.
