Metro Area Governors Island Coalition 06.06.2021

TO DO before Tues 5/11 Governors Island City Council Vote 1) Yes, there is a new one click letter to City Council members but it would be really good to put in a phone call as well! https://govislandcoalition.org/one-click-letter-to-ny-city- 2) You can join M.A.G.I.C. in canvasing Governors Island visitors Sat and Sun around the ferries and on the Island. We will give out flyers with our website info (or people can point smarthphones at QR code) and ask people send the one...-click email etc. Last weekend visitors were very receptive to us - and dismayed - most hadn't heard about the city's awful plan! (NOTE: We are not to put up or leave flyers on the island or the ferry. ) It’ll be pretty much show up when you can and maybe bring some flyers. 3) Or maybe you can you help get the word out in your neighborhood this weekend? Here's the flyer to print out. Two per page: https://govislandcoalition.org//04/magic_flyer_01_multi.pdf Here's a small poster version: https://govislandcoalition.org//2021/05/magic_gi_poster.pdf #GovernorsIsland #TreesNotTowers #DefendGI #OpenSpace https://govislandcoalition.org/take-action

The City Council votes Tues, May 11! Take action here: https://govislandcoalition.org/take-action Meanwhile, the M.A.G.I.C. walking tour on Governors Island this past Sunday was quite the success. Being there while hearing the details was really powerful for people. Discussions we had with GI visitors confirmed that few people are aware of this attempt to upzone this precocious public resource. The public does not want high-rise high-density development on GI!... Thanks to everyone who came including from East River Park Action, SoHo/NoHo, Elizabeth Street Garden, Seaport Coalition, Washington Street Historical Society, Inwood Preservation. Manhattan Borough President candidates Kim Watkins and Lindsey Boylan. GI historian Kevin Fitzpatrick. NYC National Lawyers Guild legal observers.
