Grace Church has a new rector! The Rev. Ana Rivera-Georgescu, a bilingual Episcopal priest with a fascinating background, recently moved from Plattsburgh to Syracuse to lead our beloved church. She brings great warmth, energy and a deep faith to our church, and our community. We are blessed. Join us at 10 a.m. on Sunday for ZOOM worship. To learn more about Rev. Ana: https://gracesyracuse.org/leaders/
In this strange year, we still came together - in our masks, outside under umbrellas or in our cars in the dark, chilly rain. The people living in darkness have seen a great light!
Through it all God is still, always, breaking in. https://youtu.be/kLIc5M73Ycg

Dean Kelly Brown Douglas on the shooting of Jacob Blake. More information on this shooting here: https://nyti.ms/2EgJkmg From the New York Times: "The scene of ...a white police officer shooting a Black man continues to occur with devastating frequency in the United States, even at the end of a summer marked by widespread protests and calls for reform after the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis." Last Sunday, parishioner Shaniece Clark gave a powerful sermon. Please join us in the Welsh Garden -- or on Zoom -- for worship on Sundays at 10 a.m. The Rev. Naomi Sorrwar-Randall will officiate on August 23. Remember to bring a lawn chair and wear your mask.
Let us honor the legacy and sacrifice of Jonathan Daniels every day.
On Sunday, we celebrated those who built Grace's food pantry and those who worked to keep the pantry going for nearly 40 years. We celebrated in this moment of transition as Grace joins together with University United Methodist Church and Temple Concord, with support from the Food Bank of CNY, to create the Southeast Food Center, which will be housed at University United Methodist Church. Blessings to all who have supported and continue to support this good work. : Willson Cummer (find his work at WillsonCummer.com)
Prayer When Putting on a Mask: We bless you and we praise you, Lord Christ, for commanding us to love one another. Let this mask be a sign of your love , and let my behavior be filled with love for my neighbor. Amen. - The Rev. Emily Garcia
Beautiful outdoor worship on Sunday morning, the first of many to be held in the Welch garden, Sundays at 10am. Come join us! This morning, parishioner Mary Lou Clark gave a beautiful sermon comparing gardening to nurturing love; parishioner Josie Atkins read "We Shall Overcome" in memory of Civil Rights icon and Congressman John Lewis, who died on Friday. A beautiful, warm service in the shade of trees.
Beginning this Sunday, July 19, 2020 (and Sundays thereafter, weather permitting), we will be gathering at 10:00 am for Holy Eucharist in the Welsh Garden along University Avenue. Please bring a lawn chair and your favorite mask! According to Diocesan guidance, attendance is limited. For those unable to gather in the Welsh Garden in person, worship will continue to be available via Zoom. Login information will be provided in the weekly Grace e-mail newsletter.
There is work to be done.
Celebrating our Graduates! Nottingham seniors Eric Auwaerter and Emma Tucker have been part of the Grace Church family since infancy. On Sunday, Grace celebrated their graduation from high school with a special online worship service and a garden party with ice cream, face masks and social-distancing. In the fall, Eric will attend Oberlin College and Emma will attend Rochester Institute of Technology. Godspeed, Eric and Emma!
Almighty God, by whose providence your servant John the Baptist was wonderfully born, and sent to prepare the way of your Son our Savior by preaching repentance: Make us so to follow his teaching and holy life, that we may truly repent according to his preaching; and, following his example, constantly speak the truth, boldly rebuke vice, and patiently suffer for the truth's sake; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. #nativityofjohnthebaptist #voiceinthewildernesscrying #preparethewayofthelord #stmarysconvent Icon written by Grace Morbitzer
