Great Neck Music Conservatory

Today's feature is long time GNMC piano student Vincent Tsay performing one of Chopin's most exquisite Nocturnes! Vincent not only excels at piano, he is a Chess FIDE Master (FM) and the U12 Gold Medalist of the 2017 World Cadet Chess Championship! He is also the Co-Founder of https://chess4unity.com, winner of numerous national chess tournaments, and a member of the All-America Chess Team. Wow! Despite his busy travel schedule and Junior year in High School, Vincent continues to make time to contribute to our GNMC music community. He has performed numerous times on our High Honors Concerts at Carnegie Hall, delighted Long Island audiences at the Oyster Bay Music Festival, and has placed high in national music competitions.

We think our GNMC students are simply extraordinary, and over the next few weeks we will be telling some of their stories. Today, meet Karly Chan, a junior in high school who has studied piano at GNMC for years and is also a Voice Major at The Juilliard School Pre-College. Karly founded and directs VOCO, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping singers prevent voice disorders. The organization's mission is to educate singers on how their vocal structures work, how vocal... disorders develop, and how to best utilize their voice without injury. By adding a scientific and medical perspective to singing, Vocology For Singers (VOCO) hopes to help young singers take full advantage of the instrument inside them while encouraging vocal health. What an impressive organization, and such an important subject for all singers!

Congratulations to GNMC alumnus Solomon Elyaho who is now playing clarinet for our country with the 42nd Infantry Division Band! We are so proud of you Solomon! Solomon started out at GNMC as a young violin student, but soon realized his calling was with the clarinet and bass clarinet. During his years at GNMC, Solomon performed numerous times on our High Honors Carnegie Hall Concerts and contributed to the atmosphere of GNMC on a daily basis. In recent years, he has held one of the Lead Intern Positions at Oyster Bay Music Festival. Solomon has always remained close with GNMC while earning his Bachelor of Music degree from The Crane School of Music, and while currently working on his Master of Music at Stony Brook University.

Konatsu has been a piano student at GNMC for the past 4 years, has performed several times on our High Honors Carnegie Hall concerts, and has participated for several years in the Oyster Bay Music Festival!
