Greece Ridge Lions Club 12.06.2021

From Bill Reilich, Greece Town Supervisor Yesterday at 8:45 PM Please help us help those in need... I reached out in late March and offered to assist The Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf in collecting food and supplies for our neighbors in need. At the time they felt there was some uncertainty with regard to the length of the event and how we could safely interact with those wishing to give. To be honest, we worried that many people may not be able to help either financially o...r because they too were having a hard time finding supplies for their families. Today we reconnected with the Food Shelf and we agreed this was the right time to partner with an event and help the families in need in our great Town. Over the past 6 weeks they have seen quite an increase in requests for assistance - many from people who have not previously requested food. Since church services are canceled and organizations are not meeting, their usual food donations are down and their shelves are getting bare. We are asking for your help. The Town Board and I will be hosting Drive-In Drop-Off food collection on behalf of the Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf. Please consider stopping by and helping your neighbors in need. The event will take place on Thursday, May 7th from 10 am to 2 pm, at One Vince Tofany Blvd, The Greece Town Hall. This will be a no contact event and donors are asked to bring items in bags or boxes and drop them off at the designated area in the Town Hall Parking Lot. The Greece Town Board and I will join with staff and Food Shelf volunteers in collecting the donations. To help ensure everyone's safety, we are requesting that everyone wear a face-mask or covering and maintain at least a 6' distance. Financial donations are also being accepted so that perishable goods can be purchased. We will have envelopes available for these donations and we will be providing receipts for residents that need one as well. The following items are in the highest demand: chunky soup, rice, cold cereal, canned tuna & chicken, canned vegetables and fruit, pasta sauce and dry pasta, peanut butter, canned stew, chili, or pasta, instant mashed potatoes and shelf-stable milk. Regular size cans and packages (rather than large or family-size) are most needed. Thank you all for stepping up and helping out during these uncertain times. There are many people in our community that are depending on a helping hand. Please help us spread the word. I am always humbled to represent a community that comes together in times of challenge. Help us help those in need. I know we will prevail and once again stand strong and shoulder-to-shoulder as a community. Thank you all for your help.

Congratulations to Fiona Grana from Odyssey Academy who will receive our $500 scholarship. Fiona has done a lot of volunteering, and she plans to continue to help people by becoming a nurse. Thanks to all who applied. We wish we could assist more students.

The Greece Ridge Lions' medical equipment loan closet is temporarily CLOSED. We are not currently loaning out any equipment, and we ask those who have borrowed ...from us to please hold on to our equipment until we reopen, which will be after there's an end to the current health concerns around Monroe County. Thank you. See more
