May is #AAPI heritage month and with a rise in anti-Asian hate crimes by 833% we need to stand up for our Asian American and Pacific Islander community. I had a mere glimpse of the overwhelming challenges an immigrant faces coming to this country when I did a concert tour all over China my senior year of college at @syracuseu . My incredible theory teacher, Ms. Liu, wrote a piece that mimicked the sounds of the Chinese orchestra, which mind you are tuned in quartertones. We s...ang that piece along with American barbershop and other styles of American music. Out of all the pieces we sang though was a Chinese folk song Pao ma liu Liu di shan shang. The sounds were a challenge to pronounce and sing, yet after lots of practice, they became fluid like the imagery they conveyed. It was such a memorable experience to close each concert with this piece, bridging the gap between American and Chinese culture. I will cherish that forever. Once travel is safe again, I would encourage everyone to visit Southeast Asian countries. Eat the food, embrace the culture and traditions, learn the history, and veer off the beaten path to learn what’s happening beneath the exterior. Happy Earth Day! Ever since I was a little kid and joined the @arborsociety my parents taught me the valuable lesson about caring for our planet. Whether it was through learning about recycling, starting a garden (a ate most of my lettuce) or planting a every year on Earth day to commemorate the occasion I have tried to instill the notion of caring for our natural environment in Austin. One of my favorite parts of Easter is getting to dress in your finest and brightest. It’s a reflection of the rebirth of spring and all of nature’s beautiful flowers. This photo from an Easter of the past was discovered when I was digging through scrapbooks (remember those? ). It’s with my 2 grandmothers, Rose on the Italian side, and Olga on my Ukrainian side. Sadly both passed from cancer early on, but their love of getting dressed up in their finest holds strong. Yes, I still wear suits and blazers even on Zoom. Covid has prevented my family from being together, but I will still cherish the memories of the past and look forward to a brighter future. Buona Pasqua and Z Velykodnem to all those who celebrate!

With the weather reaching a balmy 28 degrees today I decided to make our family outing to one of my favorite parks, @highlinenyc . The holly was on the trees, the murals shined even brighter in the pristine white snow, and the calm walking the entirety of the completed above ground park was an urban escape. I remember when I moved to the city the high line didn’t even exist! Now it spans all the way to @hudsonyards from the meatpacking district. Austin really enjoyed posing in front of @lanternhousenyc by Thomas Heatherwick. He’s not sure if he wants me to represent him though
