My amazing family donated blood and platelets this weekend at Memorial Sloan Kettering! Larry has been needing transfusions about 4 times a week and thinks it’s pretty cool to be receiving the blood of people he knows. They said it was very clean and they are following all precautions and social distancing. Plus there’s no traffic on the FDR which is something that you have to see to believe! So if you or someone you know is looking for an excuse to get out of the house please consider donating blood.

The Groom Spot family is in need of your prayers. Larry was admitted to Memorial Sloan Kettering Sunday night with 102.5 fever. He tested negative for Covid-19 but they found a bacterial infection in his bloodstream. He has been on a trial chemo drug to treat his relapsed AML which has left him weakened and immunocompromised. He is in ICU and not allowed any visitors due to the threat of Coronavirus. This is an incredibly difficult time for us. We’ve been fighting this leukemia together and we intend on beating it together. Please pray for my partner, my best friend since I was 16, my husband Larry.

Thank you all for sending messages and love. Sorry I have not gotten back to you individually. Larry’s treatment is intensive and he has relapsed again. It has been very hard. We are still fighting. At this time there is no date for when Groom Spot will reopen.

Yesterday on Halloween Larry graduated to the Hope Lodge! His immune system is too weak to go home just yet and he still has to go everyday to the hospital. But this is a major milestone to be released from the hospital. Halloween is special to us because 6 years ago Larry proposed so I’m hoping this is a good sign. It will be a few more weeks till he can go home so it looks like Groom Spot will probably not reopen until the new year. Post pics of your dogs in their Halloween costumes, we miss them all so much!

Hi everyone. I’ve been waiting to write an update until we had a clear plan but unfortunately I really don’t know when Groom Spot will be back up and running. Larry’s transplant failed and his leukemia came back. Treatment this time has been really hard on him and honestly hard on me too. He’s now at Memorial Sloan Kettering where the plan is to get him a second transplant as soon as possible. I’m unable to leave his side until things become more stable, which puts grooming o...n hold. I ask you all to pray for us to find the strength and perseverance needed to get through this. I will let you all know when he will be receiving this transplant so we all can send up as many specific prayers as possible. I cannot thank you all enough for caring so much about us. Larry’s second fight with leukemia is tougher than his first but he is a fighter. Our community has rallied around us and we can’t wait to see you as soon as we can!

We are soo moved by the outpouring of love and support from our customers! Larry has been stuck inside the same hospital room for 4 weeks and today he was reminded that there is an entire community of people waiting for him. You have given us so much hope!

This is not the update I want to give. Unfortunately Larry’s leukemia has returned. Again we have to start treatment and again Julie will be his caregiver. Booking appointments will be difficult. Please check back for more information soon.
