Markus Wasmeier Open Air Museum! A former World Cup alpine ski racer from Germany. He was world champion and twice Olympic champion.[1] Immerse yourself in co...untry life as it once was: the old Bavarian village offers an insight into the culture, tradition and handicrafts of the Bavarian Oberland. The open air museum Within walking distance of the southern bank of the Schliersee and directly opposite the Fischhausen-Neuhaus train station, the Markus Wasmeier open-air museum offers a worth seeing journey through time into the past of the Bavarian Oberland. With his privately run museum, the former ski racer Markus Wasmeier brings rural life to life in the early 18th century. His old Bavarian village consists of more than ten buildings, some of which are listed. Thanks to the many lovingly assembled exhibits, rural life of the past centuries is brought to life here. In recent years the open-air museum has developed into one of the most popular sights on the Schliersee. In addition to the courtyards, visitors discover almost forgotten regional types of grain that are grown in the museum. Bees, chickens, pigs and cows, which were and are part of traditional village life, also graze on the spacious grounds. Tavern Zum Wofen After a tour of the outdoor facilities, it's best to go to the museum's own Bavarian tavern, Zum Wofen, to treat yourself to a home-brewed beer and a small snack from the regional cuisine. For those who cannot get enough of the hearty meal or who can take something for their digestion: home-made schnapps and fresh wood-fired bread can be tasted in the outdoor area during the presentation of regional craftsmanship. Regular events Various events also take place in the museum. In addition to a veal sausage seminar and a herb tour, open air concerts are also held. A list of current events can be found on the museum website. In winter, one of the most popular Christmas markets in the Schliersee region takes place, Wasmeier's Christmas Market. Tip: The opening times entered on Google are only valid for the period from April to November. Except for a nice Christmas market in mid-December, the museum is closed in winter. Parking spaces can be tight on weekends and public holidays. Hello Schliersee recommendation An eventful day in the museum can be rounded off with a cool beer at the Rixner Alm. The small Bergalm is just 20 minutes' walk away on the west bank of the Schliersee. Both can be combined on the loop around the Schliersee. opening hours Tue-Sun: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm (April - November) Rest days: Monday (except public holidays) Park Parking spaces are available directly at the museum. Parking is also possible at the Schliersee. In addition, parking spaces are available at the Fischhausen-Neuhaus train station opposite, even if there are very high numbers of visitors. address Markus Wasmeier Open Air Museum Brunnbichl 5 83727 Schliersee See more
