On being a girl boss in 2021 wtf is a girl boss anyway - do we use the term boy boss or man boss? I think it’s about time we start stepping into our power and just calling ourselves BOSSES. hellllooo! . . . Anyway :... It’s easy to paint a pretty picture on Instagram of the girl boss life - people praising the hustle and no days off and being a #bossbabe - making it look glamorous and carefree. But this is what it actually looks like. Happiness, sadness, excitement, stress, doubt, fear, trust, anxiety, love. Every single emotion in one photo - as we got @indigo.beauty.lounge ready Today’s society has created a sort of glorified view of entrepreneurship - don’t get me wrong, I encourage everyone to follow their dreams. But those of us who do pursue it know there are no shortcuts - there is no yellow brick road to success - you start with nothing, and must face every day with determination, attention, and clarity, and give yourself a shit ton of grace. It’s hard as hell - and that’s ok to acknowledge! Because let’s be honest - no ones business magically appears! Let’s give ourselves more gratitude. We create something incredible and we show up every day to offer it to our community. We should shine just as much light on our struggles, flaws and failures in our businesses as we do our successes. Color & Placement. I don’t think I ever use the same foil placement. I also don’t keep cards on my client’s formulas, unless we find a color that we KNOW we will try to exactly replicate at some point in the future. Every time someone sits in my chair, I have a consult AND reformulate their color (yes even my monthly root touch up clients) and reevaluate placement based on their goals. . . . Reasons I do this : 1- I don’t get bored!! 2-my clients never feel like I’m doin...g the same old thing over and over 3- I’m constantly learning and growing rather than being repetitive and taking the easy way out. I can’t tell you how many of my clients left their previous stylists because they feel like they were just getting the same thing over and over. . . . Stylists, there’s no right or wrong way to run business, and I’m just sharing a method that has kept my book full year round. Keep the creativity going. Don’t get caught up in a pattern and don’t get caught up on Instagram where we see 200 different names of new techniques. Just hairstrokes mid process these will heal 30% lighter and softer than they initially look -giving my client some soft enhancement to her natural brow that has thinned out over time.
