Monroe County fire departments have pulled their recruits from the NYS Fire Academy after an incident Wednesday in which a recruit complaining of being in respi...ratory distress was pushed by instructors to continue a physically taxing maze exercise while wearing an air tank. The firefighter complained that he couldn't breathe or move and was told by instructors, "Don't quit on us!" and sent back into the maze. In the maze, his low-air alarm went off, then his no-movement alarm went off. Instructors did not respond immediately. When the instructors ultimately opened the maze to check, the firefighter was found to be in cardiac arrest. He is reportedly hospitalized in Sayre, Pa. RFD, Ridge Road, Ridge Culver and the Rochester airport all pulled their firefighters from the academy. The Monroe County firefighters will complete their training at the county facility. Firefighters are concerned about the nature and quality of the state fire academy and its instructors. See more

This morning several of your Webster firefighters visited the 12/24 memorial site on Lake Road. It has become an annual tradition to place a wreath in memory o...f firefighters Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka who were murdered on December 24, 2012 when responding to a house fire. Also shot and wounded were firefighters Ted Scardino and Joe Hofstetter. During this holiday season we ask that everyone take a moment to remember the ultimate sacrifice these volunteers made for our community. #neverforget
