2. Favorite office event of 2019? Community and culture are at the center of who we are. One of the many ways we achieve this is through various office events and activities. Annually we hold a summer picnic. We eat good food, play fun games, and get to spend time with each other outside of the office. It is always a great time, and we look forward to it every year!... #hbtarchitects #2019inreview

Favorite project of 2019? A popular favorite project around our office, The Finger Lakes Museum provided our team with an exciting design challenge. The design transforms an existing 1960’s school building into a dynamic exhibit space inspired by the Finger Lakes region. Reinforcing the Museum’s vision to inspire, educate and entertain, the design uses regional landforms, colors, and natural mat...erials for inspiration. The story of erosion, and the layered, ever changing scenery were used to create a building form that harmonizes with the natural landscape and local context. The design incorporates a 17,000 square foot renovation, as well as a 5,300 square foot addition, creating new spaces for regionally inspired exhibits and community programs. The Museum currently lives its mission as a museum without walls through public programming at its site and throughout the Finger Lakes. These designs have enabled the Museum to successfully enter into a capital campaign with visuals of what the future main exhibit hall will entail. Happy New Year from all of us at HBT! As we look forward to 2020, we’d like to pause and reflect on our past year. We asked our team a series of questions, and over the next few weeks we will be sharing our responses with some of our favorite memories, stories, and accomplishments from 2019. None of it would be possible without you. We’d like to thank our clients, consultants, staff, families, and friends for an exciting year! We turn 20 in 2020, and have exciting news to share, so stay tuned! #hbtarchitects #20in2020

COMMUNITY CENTER RECEIVES ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN AWARD The Town of Pittsford’s Paul M. Spiegel Community Center has received a 2019 Architectural Design Excellenc...e Award from the American Institute of Architects - Rochester Chapter. The award celebrates the best in contemporary architecture and highlights the many ways buildings and spaces can improve our lives. An esteemed outside jury comprised of architects and interior designers from the northeast selected award recipients. Town staff members from every department had a hand in the success of this project, from planning through implementation, said Pittsford Town Supervisor Bill Smith. HBT Architects worked diligently with our teams to create an exceptionally functional yet historically sensitive update and expansion of the facility. Former Town Councilwoman and project liaison Mary Gehl Doyle lent her truly committed and valuable leadership to the effort. Supervisor Smith continued: We’re all very proud to receive such an impressive recognition for our Community Center. It’s a fitting testament to the purpose we envisioned when we began the project - to provide outstanding services to our residents in a uniquely welcoming, top-quality facility that preserves and reflects our history. The expanded and completely renovated Paul M. Spiegel Community Center reopened in August of 2018. The facility features: bright and inviting child care and youth programming rooms a Senior Center featuring a large meeting room with commercial grade kitchen, a lounge, and activity rooms fully remodeled multi-purpose and activity rooms for dance, fitness, classes, meetings and other programming, featuring outstanding audiovisual amenities completely renovated gymnasium and new playground new restroom and shower facilities energy efficient and ADA-compliant amenities The community center building was constructed in 1916 as the Pittsford School, which served Pittsford children from kindergarten through 12th grade. The Town acquired it in 1973 for use as its Recreation Department. The building was dedicated in honor of Paul M. Spiegel in 1987 upon his retirement as Pittsford Town Supervisor and was rededicated in his honor at the facility's re-opening in 2018.
