For those living in Israel, military presence is a way of life, and young men and women are required to serve in the Israel Defense Forces at the age of 18. Military personnel always deserve our support, but the need is even greater when the soldiers are young, vulnerable teens for whom life has already proved difficult. Imagine defending your country without a family to come home to, and no support system. Coping with the stressors of military training is difficult enough, a...nd for some troubled teens, it’s too much to bear. In 2005, a young man who had spent his childhood in foster care and found himself in this situation, took his own life because the reality of not having a place to come home to was one he didn’t know how to live with. Ahava Village’s 18+ Program was created so that young adults in this position wouldn’t be driven to the same fate. Ahava provides not only a relaxing and familiar home for young adults to return to while on leave from the military, but also a place of support, encouragement and love. What Dani Klein Modisett of Laughter On Call remembers most vividly from her first trip to Israel was stepping off the plane and having an enveloping feeling of being welcome. 41 years later, she recently re-visited Israel as a mother and shares her latest experience.

We are excited to join Bnai Zion Medical Center in welcoming their new CEO, Dr. Ohad Hochman. Born in Haifa, Dr. Hochman studied medicine at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and holds a M.A. in managing health systems. He previously served as the Deputy Director of Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, as Lieutenant Colonel in the Friends of the IDF (FIDF), and as the Chief Doctor of the Israeli Navy. "The next few years will bring challenges, mainly the completion of the protected ...E.R, building new delivery and labor suites, upgrading departments and facilities and the assimilation of advanced service processes. We will continue to lead the hospital towards new achievements while providing professional and dedicated service to all citizens. In his free time, Dr. Hochman likes to run and read books. We wish him the best and look forward to seeing all that he will achieve at Bnai Zion Medical Center!
