One more family left to pick up tomorrow and then some much needed time off for me n Mom! It was a great month of happy helping - we helped make the residents a...t Oasis Rehab happy, we took care of lots of families! So many car fulls of breakfast, dinner, gifts...We could NOT have done it without your help- your donations, your adopting families , the HMUH Board, the ppl who shopped like Michelle Ciappa Mitchell and her troop, and Brenda Marie who shopped and then wrapped her way into the wee hours of night during the snow storm. While I have to admit to feeling that 2020 stink-stank-stunk for a little part of every day since March, for the most part of every day I’ve felt grateful- beca...use of YOU Because of you we were able to make kids happy with mailbox Easter egg hunts and an Easter Bunny drive around. Because of you we were still able to feed and donate to our veterans. Because of you we continued to feed families and fill food pantries. Because of you we were able to still supply countless kids with new backpacks and school supplies and provide comfort cases to neglected kids. Because of you we fed record # ‘s of families for Thanksgiving. Because of you so many homeless men & women have coats & blankets to keep them warm-with more to come. Because of you, several families without beds now have them, and a gentleman who needed clothing has more than enough. Because of you we are able to fund a new scholarship. Because of you we were able to help 91 kids, 34 families, 91 Oasis residents, and many cancer patients and their families have happier holidays! Where we wondered how we’d be able to continue helping thru the pandemic, you showed us how to be busier than ever- in a safe way! You so willingly adapted to the new normal of helping-the drop n go drives, the smaller groups of volunteering, the online fundraising so we could carry on, and made this the best helping year ever for Helping Makes U Happy! Does anyone have a really nice excellent condition little girls bike for a 3yr olds wish list?

This was shared on a Covid survivor group...have heard many of these before but it seems helpful: SHARING FROM ANOTHER PAGE HOW TO FIGHT COVID AT HOME... No one ever talks about how to fight Covid at home. I came down with Covid in November. I went to the hospital, running a fever of 103, a rapid heart beat, and other common symptoms that come with Covid. While I was there they treated me for the high fever, dehydration and pneumonia. The doctor sent me home to fight Covid with two prescriptions - Azithromycin 250mg & Dexamethason 6mg. When the nurse came in to discharge me, I asked her, "What can I do to help fight this at home?" She said, Sleep on your stomach at all times with Covid. If you can’t sleep on your stomach because of heath issues sleep on your side. Do not lay on your back no matter what because it smashes your lungs and that will allow fluid to set in. Set your clock every two hours while sleeping on your stomach, then get out of bed and walk for 15-30 min, no matter how tired or weak that you are. Also move your arms around frequently, it helps to open your lungs. Breathe in thru your nose, and out thru your mouth. This will help build up your lungs, plus help get rid of the Pneumonia or other fluid you may have. When sitting in a recliner, sit up straight - do not lay back in the recliner, again this will smash your lungs. While watching TV - get up and walk during every commercial. Eat at least 1 - 2 eggs a day, plus bananas, avocado and asparagus.These are good for Potassium. Drink Pedialyte, Gatorade Zero, Powerade Zero & Water with Electrolytes to prevent you from becoming dehydrated. Do not drink anything cold - have it at room temperature or warm it up. Water with lemon, and little honey, peppermint tea, apple cider are good suggestions for getting in fluids. No milk products, or pork. Vitamin’s D3, C, B, Zinc, Probiotic One-Day are good ideas. Tylenol for fever. Mucinex, or Mucinex DM for drainage, plus helps the cough. Pepcid helps for cramps in your legs. One baby aspirin everyday can help prevent getting a blood clot, which can occur from low activity. " Drink a smoothie of blueberries, strawberries, bananas, honey, tea and a spoon or two of peanut butter. We always hear of how Covid takes lives, but there isn't a lot of information out there regarding how to fight Covid. I hope this helps you or someone you know, just as it has helped me. Busy days are the BEST and yesterday was one of those! First I had an interview/short video with Ruth McDade, Director of Development and Marcelle Leis, Directo...r of Veterans Services for the Assoc. For Menta Health & Wellness. Next we did more shopping for the families and then the SCPD COPE officers came to do a gingerbread house event with a small, socially distant group. After that it was time to wrap, wrap, wrap! Thx to all the volunteers who came- we put a big dent in the wrapping! Thx to the Center Moriches students who collected and donated toys, and also to Troop 1366 who did the same! See more

Another busy day! We finished bagging up the shoes for the shoe fundraiser drive- 3,400 pairs in all! Then optimum came by and... we got the WiFi yeah yeah yeah...!! We started sorting the gifts coming in for all the families and also boxed up lots of food. We’ve been to several local food pantries this week with donations and today we were able to bless our new friend Rich Ohlsen from St Andrews Church with a truck full - outside and inside! Their food pantry was REALLY in need. They supply the blessing boxes in the County parks where the homeless live, in addition to helping folks in their parish! We also worked hard on promoting and choosing prizes for our wheel day of raising funds for the Joe Rera Scholarship which, by the way, is still going on. I can’t tell you how honored I am to be able to help Troop/Pack 23 year after year with their care packages for the military. Usually we pay for the mailing of ...the boxes, and donate some items. This year, because of the generosity of community members in donating toiletries to our comfort cases project, we had lots left and were able to help even more! Thx to all, 71 boxes were mailed out. And thx to the AH-MAZING Brenda Marie who devotes so many hours to this project and who spent all afternoon today making sure they got sent out so our military would know they’ve not been forgotten! Thanksgiving helping finishes up for HMUH tomorrow, HUGE thanks to all who’ve helped with that, and then it’s on to making happy holidays for so many children! ...We’ll be having some toy collection boxes going up in several places-TJ’S Heros Mastic Beach, Raelene’s Hair salon and Crust Around the Corner in East Moriches. We’ll be putting up our Sign Up Genius wish list and amazon wish list so if you want to help that way you can easily do it from the safety of your own home. Not only do we help the local families referred to us, we help others who help too - SC COPE, Family Service League-so our reach covers even more kids in need. Thank you to all who are already collecting for us, and who have brought items to us! Mom and I will be taking a much needed little break this coming week to recharge for a busy December!

Every now and then there comes a day where you look at what you’re accomplishing and you just have to say- WOW! My Thanksgiving non- profit partner, Caitlyn’s V...ision and I started out about 2 weeks ago knowing we’d be helping 14 families. By the time Monday rolls around we’ll have helped a little under 200! From church and school referrals, helping SCPD COPE and the SC Sheriffs, with each of us really pushing and, of course, with the help of our extremely generous community members, followers, businesses ( one brought us 23 complete dinner pkgs tonight- including turkeys!), and other non-profit helping friends , it’s been the most AH-MAZING Thanksgiving experience yet! It doesn’t really hit home as you’re working, collecting, sorting, shopping, packing, delivering- just 2 kids who want to help ppl- and then you see THIS- a room filled with food to help our local communities so thankful See more

It sure is cold out tonight. And as I’m bundled up, nice and warm, I’m so grateful for all that have donated coats, gloves, hats, and blankets to Helping Makes ...U Happy because I was able to bless many who came for Thanksgiving boxes today with those very things. And tomorrow night the caring people in the local street ministry will take some from our building out to the homeless in the streets. I did find though that I’m very low on gloves. If you happen to have an extra pair in your house that you don’t need, we’d be very thankful if you’d bring them to our drop closet on Neville St. The last pair that we gave out tonight was really a little small for the gentleman who needed them but he was so happy to have them.
