What a great week of orientations for new volunteers with Pete's Giving Garden! Elissa Johnson (Food Studies) led the volunteer orientations for the new south c...ampus garden project aimed at addressing food insecurity in SU's campus community. Fresh produce will supplement the stocked shelves of the Hendricks Chapel Food Pantry on main campus, as well as the new South Campus Food Pantry located in the Syracuse University Sustainability office (in Skybarn!) Food Studies is glad to be partnering with Syracuse University Sustainability to benefit Hendricks Chapel Food Pantry and the students and staff that use these essential services campus wide. Food insecurity on college campuses is only recently gaining the attention it deserves, but it's not a new problem. As students work hard to succeed in these institutions of higher education it is important to feed their minds and their mouths. We look forward to seeing this project grow! Got library fines? "Food for Fines" returns next week (April 23-27). For every nonperishable food item donated, you can reduce your library fines by $1, while also helping support the Syracuse University community. All food items will be donated to the Hendricks Chapel Food Pantry.

Such a great idea from the University of Florida!! The Hendricks Chapel Food Pantry will be teaming up with Syracuse University Libraries at the end of April to hold a similar event for library fees. Stay tuned!
