Thank you to all the residents that came out to vote in the commission elections tonight. The results are as follows: Francis "Joe" Martin: 271 votes Robert Peckham: 98 votes
Remember to vote this evening for your fire commissioner. Voting begins at 4pm and ends at 9pm at 60 Erie Station Rd, HFD station 6. Social distancing and COVID precautions will be in place.
At about 9:40 this morning we responded to West Henrietta Rd @ Jefferson Rd for an MVA with entrapment and ejection. The trapped passenger was extricated in 20 minutes and 4 people were transported by CHS to the trauma center. MCSO is investigating.
Crews quickly responded to and extinguished a dumpster fire at a business on Brighton Henrietta Town Line Rd last night. The dumpster was close to a parked tractor trailer but damage was contained to the dumpster.
On Thursday just after 3pm we responded to a reported bedroom fire. We arrived within 4 minutes and found a preschooler who was seriously burned when their clothing caught fire. Further investigation reviled a fire in the bedroom which was out. The fire is belived to have been started by the child playing with a lighter, but is still under investigation. This incident shows the importance of making sure children do not have access to lighters and also shows that immediate re...sponse with appropriate crew size is extreamly important. The 6 firefighters that initially arrived (Lt and 3 FFs on 642 and 2 Chief officers) were able to establish incident command, perform a 360 degree scene assessment, the FF/Paramedic initiated care and remainder of the crew was able to run the apparatus and ensure the fire had not spread. The child was transported by CHS to the Kessler Trauma Center at the UofR, MCSO and MCFB on scene to investigate and Town Fire Marshal assisted. See more
Firefighters along with MCSO and CHS Ambulance responded to a house fire overnight on Palo Alto Drive. Crews arrived to find everyone out and proceeded to quickly extinguish the fire.
Thank you to Tops Friendly Markets Henrietta for the donation of a new washing machine. We plan on using it at Station 6 @ Erie Station and East River Rd.
Congratulations to Lt. Chuck Dodson on his graduation from the National Fire Academy's Managing Officer Program (delayed presentation due to C19). This program is a minimum of two years and includes a capstone project that benefits our department. With this diploma Chuck joins an extremely elite group of officers in the US fire service. Currently HFD has 3 MO's in our ranks the largest number in NY. https://www.usfa.fema.gov/traini//programs/mo_program.html
Station 1 personnel, along with dozens of other local first responders, had the honor of wishing the kids at the Golisano Children's Hospital good night tonight as part of the annual Goodnight Lights. Thank you to Rochester NY Police Department for organizing this fantastic event.
Unattended cooking is the leading cause of home cooking fires. Stay in the kitchen when you are cooking at high temperatures. If you must leave, turn off the burner. When simmering food on the stove or baking in the oven, set a timer to remind you that you are cooking. It is very easy to get distracted by electronics and lose track of time.
This week is fire prevention week and this year the focus is safety in the kitchen! Although not filled with our typical fire prevention week activities for us this year because of Covid, we did enjoy the opportunity to show our trucks to the pre-kindergarten classes at the town recreation center today.
**IMPORTANT STREET CLOSING NOTICE** We have been informed that Calkins Road will be closed between Middle Road and Hylan Drive on Friday October 9th at 7PM for up to 5 days for railroad track repair. There will be detours posted. Please plan accordingly.
Today, the bells will toll at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial and across the country in honor and memory of those who lost their lives in the line of duty. We take a moment to reflect on their unselfish service, and send love and strength to those whom they left behind.
Several of our members spent some time on the water these past few days with NY State Fire learning rescue boat operations.
A vehicle struck a pole last night by RIT, which may have caused a brief loss of power overnight for some on the westside.
Thank you so much to JoJo's Cool Bus for stopping by Stations 4 and 6 to hand out ice cream. It was much appreciated on a beautiful night!
Always keeping our skills sharp, personnel conducted annual live fire training at our training center tonight.
