A dearth of retirement savings is a big problem, according to a report published by the National Institute on Retirement Security (NIRS). The typical working American has no retirement savings. And those who do save, often don’t save enough. Doctors often find themselves playing catch-up when it comes to retirement savings. Here are some tips to strengthen your retirement savings plan. #heronwealth #retirement #retirementplanning #investing #stockmarket

98% of people are terrible at being investors. It has nothing to do with intelligence or education; it has everything to do with our caveman ancestors who, though they existed 10,000 years ago, are still driving our daily decisions. Cavemen had no opportunity to spend time thinking things through. If they took too long to make decisions, they got eaten by tigers and didn’t reproduce. All these millennia later, we’re at the apex of human civilization. We think we’re rational, but the reality is, we take shortcuts all the time which can lead us astray. #heronwealth #behavioralfinance #gamestop #economics #economicbubble

We live at the apex of human civilization, but our decision-making processes are still governed by the instincts of our caveman ancestors. Cave people did not have the luxury of making a lengthy analysis of all available options, because those who were slow to react got eaten by tigers and did not live to reproduce. We like to think that we make purely rational decisions in investing, or indeed in life in general. But in fact, we are as reactive as our ancient relatives. The... instincts that allowed us to survive back then often lead us astray today. As investors, we’re hired to manage portfolios, but we probably spend just as much time managing emotions. In our Cognitive Biases series, we described these common emotional shortcuts. Understanding and controlling these biases helps us avoid costly errors in judgment. #behavioralfinance #heronwealth #cognitivebiases #webinar Watch the replay here:

I heard the news today oh, boy. I spent nearly every morning of the last calendar year hearing that John Lennon lyric echo in my mind. It was all I could do... to keep from getting overwhelmed by the cavalcade of catastrophe that was 2020. Now that we have, at least nominally, crossed out of that most chaotic year, the Beatles tune has changed: There’s nothing you can do that can’t be doneAll you need is love. Transitioning from 2020 to 2021 feels good. It’s maybe not the grand-reopening that many of us anticipated, but as the COVID-19 vaccine slowly makes the rounds, and Donald Trump slowly accepts that he has to leave office (or is dragged out by his coattails), I find ample reason for optimism. Guided by Lennon/McCartney, I’ve compiled my thoughts and feelings in my first article of 2021: Magical Mystery Tour: The Past, The Future, and the Now. Optimists and Beatles fans unite! #beatles #Lyrics #johnlennon #paulmccartney #magicalmysterytour #newyear #present #liveinthemoment #thoughtleadership #gritwithgrace #the4gs
