What are you doing Saturday, May 8th? Feel like doing some citizen science at the orchard? We've partnered up with Grassland Bird Trust to count the number of birds and bird species on our 370 acres. Actually, the whole world is counting birds on May 8. Why? It's Global Big Day. We’ve lost 3 billion birds in the U.S. and Canada over the last 50 years. Grassland birds suffered the steepest declines, losing more than 700 million birds, or 53% of their population since 1970. ... Global Big Day is your chance to help with conservation efforts and turn things around. Get a ticket to our event on May 8th (https://www.grasslandbirdtrust.org/upcoming-guided-walks-a/). Not your thing? Make a gift directly to Grassland Bird Trust (https://www.grasslandbirdtrust.org/donate/). Do it in honor of your mother -- or Mother Earth. (((May 8th is they day before Mother's Day. I recommend bringing the kids and mom to the 9 am family guided bird walk and stay for a FREE 11 AM live bird demonstration. We have 5 birds of prey coming!!! It will be incredible. https://grasslandbirdtrust.networkforgood.com//28902-globa)))
Sarah's story is incredible. I am soooo happy that she still walks this earth after her traumatic brain injury. She wrote a book. Come get a copy at the barn store.
Today! Bake sale & fudge sale! Enjoy with some free hot cider on the deck.
Hey friends, I feel like a bit of a dunce (see my hat below) for only putting the word out now. Tomorrow from 4 to 6 pm, and on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., I'm looking for volunteers that want to help kick off the renovations of the Slyboro Schoolhouse. Clarence Richie donated a dumpster for us to fill. Please private message me if you're interested in stopping by. I want to give a shout out to Duane Daigle for providing technical advice. Also Art Moyer who is lending hi...s expertise. Michelle Wilson is joining me at 4 tomorrow, too! Thank you also to Sarah Rath, who is on the board of the Pawlett Historical Society. She gave me a tour of the Braintree School on Wednesday. This one room school is beautifully preserved. Old structures like these are rapidly disappearing across America. The Slyboro Schoolhouse is not part of the orchard operation. But we hope with community help, we can save it, and turn it back into a space for the community. The future is bright!
The porch is open. Ignore the laundry! Spring has sprung at Hicks Orchard and Slyboro Ciderhouse! Come enjoy some cider donuts, Argyle cheese farmer cheese curds, yogurt and smoothies, and of course our wonderful sparkling cider!
