We show children that a word can be segmented into sounds, and the sounds can be represented by letters. #Spelling is an efficient way of teaching and embedding those connections that naturally build phonemic awareness. It’s not enough to know how to decode words; the words must be recognized immediately. This takes practice, practice, and more practice!
