IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER FOR WINTER!! No vehicles shall be parked on any public highway within the limits of the Town of Lancaster between the hours of 1:00am and 7:00pm during the period beginning November 15 and ending on March 15 of each year (unless ban is lifted). Vehicles left parked on the roads during those times will be ticketed (and possibly towed, if they interfere with highway department snow removal). Do not place trash cans within 2 ft. of the edge of pavement.... Do not park cars in driveways within 10 ft. of edge of pavement. Do not allow children to build and occupy "snow forts" and similar creations within 10 ft. of the edge of pavement or cul-de-sac. DO NOT ALLOW CHILDREN TO BUILD TUNNELS! Do not relocate or throw snow from driveways & sidewalks into the street. This is a violation of NYS Highway law (Article 8, Section 214) & will cause a hazardous condition on the street. It is the home owner's responsibility to notify their snow plow contractor of this law. Fences and all non-permanent seasonal items should not be within 10 ft. of edge of pavement. Clear around fire hydrants (home owner's responsibility). All mailboxes should be 42"-44" tall from the top of the curb. Cars should stay back at least 200 ft. from plow truck while plowing & salting. DO NOT ASSUME that the plow driver can see you while plowing and/or backing up. With your cooperation salting and plowing will run smoother and your streets will be cleared in a timely manner. Thank you.
The Town of Lancaster Overnight Parking Ban is temporarily lifted until Saturday, November 21. This will re-evaluated at that time to determine if a further extension is warranted, based on weather forecasts.
**WINTER PARKING BAN REMINDER** The winter parking ban for Lancaster begins on November 15th and runs through March 15th. Parking on all Town of Lancaster stree...ts is prohibited from 1:00 a.m. until 7:00 a.m. during those dates. Parking on all Village of Lancaster streets is prohibited from 2:00 a.m. until 7:00 a.m for those dates. Vehicles left parked on the roads during those times will be ticketed (and possibly towed, if they interfere with highway department snow removal). Thank you for your cooperation. Keeping your vehicles off the roadway during these hours helps our highway departments to keep our roads clear of snow and ice during the coming months.
The Highway Department picks up raked leaves. Please leave them loose (not bagged) in a pile by the street (NOT IN THE STREET). We have between 3 and 5 leaf trucks picking them up throughout the town. We do ask for your patience as there are over 200 streets (not counting State or County) in the town. There is no need to call us for individual pick up. Our workers all have a route that they follow. Thank you.
Aurora Street will be closed between William Street & Como Park Boulevard beginning Wednesday, October 14th for milling and paving. Please use an alternate route if traveling thru the area. We will advise once it has been reopened.
Please do not notify the Highway Department about political signs. If you have an issue with them, please call Code Enforcement. Thank you.
Some issues encountered when doing backyard drainage. Here is a situation that we have had happen at least 4 times this year. Fences are put up and we have had problems with our pipes being augured right through and filled with concrete. It causes drainage problems, sink holes, and can form concrete balls in pipes.
Superintendent's Dan Amatura of Lancaster and David Gunner of Aurora working together to keep their town's beautiful!

As stated last year to the Town Board, the Highway Department will NOT be picking up any grass clippings this year.
As grass-cutting season falls upon us, where can Lancaster residents dispose of their grass clippings? As long as they are put in garbage bins, Waste Management... will accept them. Although last year, the Lancaster town highway department lent a hand with curbside pickup, this year, clippings will be taken by Waste Management if disposed of with residents' trash.
The Town of Lancaster Highway Department is working hard to keep our town safe. Under the social distancing guidelines for COVID-19, we have reduced our staffing levels. So be patient with us as we work to keep Lancaster beautiful. If you need brush picked up please call 716-683-3426..
