Leaf peeping? May we make some recommendations.... Consider getting out on a kayak to see the fall foliage! The flat waters allow for amazing 360 degree views of the blazing fall colors. It’s basically the view at the top of a nice hike but without the hike. South Colton is in its prime right now, and the reservoirs are gorgeous! We recommend Higley, South Colton, Five Falls, and Rainbow. Beyond that, the remaining reservoirs have a lot of evergreens, which are beautiful, but... not awesome for leaf peeping . If you ARE going to get out on the water, we recommend warm clothing, good shoes to help you stay dry while you launch and beach, and gloves to keep your hands warm and dry. If you can’t get out in the kayak, consider a scenic drive. We didn’t have the time to drive into Lake Placid, so we took a cruise on the Raquette River Road right in South Colton instead. The boat launch areas make for great photo ops and the views are awesome! Bonus, you can do this while it rains, while the kids nap, or both
