Late last night, just before midnight, the Hillcrest Fire Company was dispatched to an extrication on Pennington Way in the New Hempstead area of our district. Our Captain, 6-4 was first on scene and confirmed one vehicle on its side with the driver trapped. 6-Squad was first due and the crew quickly went to work to stabilize the vehicle before using the Rhyno Windshield Cutter to remove the windshield to free the driver. Once the driver was freed, the crews of 6-Squad and 6-Rescue had to use speedy-dry for the fluids that spilled onto the roadway as a result of the accident. Town of Ramapo Police Department and @Spring Hill EMS were also on scene. Great work by all!
Earlier this afternoon we were dispatched to a report of smoke in the building. Captain Pomeranz (6-4) was first on scene and confirmed smoke coming from the roof. 6-Tanker was first due and the crew made entry and met heavy smoke. The fire was located in the ceiling and Chief Youngman (6-1) who was command confirmed the working fire over the air. One line was stretched from 6-Tanker while crews from the Tanker and 1750 pulled ceilings and operated the line while the crew from 6-Tower set up and made cuts on the roof. Mutual aid was received from Tallman Volunteer Fire Department and Monsey Fire Dept. Great job by all! Photos courtesy of Dylan G. and 44-1
