At 3:01PM this Friday afternoon, PHFD was dispatched to the intersection of Rt448 & Rt117 for the reported car fire. Car 2383, the first unit on scene, advised of a fully involved pickup truck with a propane tank inside and a portable generator on the back. E189 arrived not long after and used the front bumper 1 3/4 line to quickly knock the fire down. Units staged further away from the vehicle due to the hazard the propane tank posed. A great job to all members who responded and assisted on scene. Units operating: 2383, 2382, E189, T12 Photos used with owners permission.

A #FlashbackFriday to close out the week... the former Engine 190, a 1979 Hahn Pumper, that is now privately owned. Thank you to Raymond DeFiore for the photos... apparently she’s still a pleasure to drive! This engine served our community well for many years. This engine was retired after we received Rescue 43 approx. 15 years ago. If you look to the left in the video, you can see retired PCFD E62 @port_chester_fire ... @engine62_pcfd Raymond DeFiore

The officers and members of the Columbian Engine Company No. 1, of the Spring Valley Fire Department, sadly announce the line of duty death of Firefighter Jared... Calvin Lloyd. Firefighter Lloyd was one the first to arrive on the scene of a structure fire at the Evergreen Court Home for Adults; an effort that would eventually involve over 150 firefighters from 4 counties. Firefighter Lloyd was in the process of searching for and rescuing trapped residents and is credited with saving multiple victims . At a certain point, Jared became trapped himself. Firefighter Lloyd radioed in a mayday call and his brother firefighters immediately attempted to locate and extricate him but were unsuccessful before the building suffered a catastrophic collapse. After searching for over 18 hours straight, state and local emergency service personnel located Firefighter Lloyd’s body at 2350 hours on March 23rd. Jared Lloyd gave his life in service to others, but more importantly, he lived his life in service to others. He was a member of the company for 16 years. He served as an engineer, as a second lieutenant and first lieutenant among many leadership positions in the company. He attended Spring Valley High School and played as a linebacker on the varsity football team. He was a loving father to his two sons, an avid golfer and bowler and a die hard Mets fan; never losing the faith. He was a friend, a leader, a brother, a Columbian. Rest easy bub, we got it from here. Donations to the Lloyd family can be submitted here ( https://gofund.me/19e3c82a ),100% of the proceeds are going to Jared's sons.

Today is National Police Officer Appreciation day! We would like to take a minute to say thank you to cops everywhere for the difficult job they do. We would especially like to thank Mount Pleasant PD, who we are very fortunate to work with regularly.

Just before 9:30 this Christmas morning, PHFD was dispatched to a residence on Bedford Rd on a report of an electrical problem with smoke filling the house. Without hesitation, A dozen Pocantico firefighters left their homes on this holiday morning to help their neighbors in need. While responding, Mt. Pleasant Police advised the house was full of smoke. Car 2383, E189, & T12 arrived on scene to find a significant smoke condition in the house. Firefighters went on air and ma...de their way through the house to find a circuit breaker panel had burnt up in the basement, actually burning a large hole in itself. PHFD units utilized a TIC to search for the source of the smoke and then used fans to vent the entire house. Units remained on scene for 3 hours, venting the structure & waiting for Con-Ed to arrive on scene. Our thanks to Archville FD, Cars 2361, 2362, 2363, E235 & E236 for their assistance, and our further thanks to the homeowner for providing our firefighters with some much needed coffee while we waited for Con-Ed. PHFD also responded to an additional residential alarm later in the afternoon which was thankfully only some burnt food on the stove.

Yesterday, at 1402 hours, Tanker 12 was dispatched by 60-Control to a working structure fire in the Yorktown Fire District, to aid with shuttling water to the scene, which was in a rural area, sparsely populated with fire hydrants. Tanker 12 responded with a full crew within minutes. Upon arrival on the scene, members relayed water from a fill site to the location of the fire, and assisted other tankers in filling their tanks.

Santa made a surprise visit to the Pocantico Community Tree Lighting tonight, escorted by yours truly, the Pocantico Hills Fire Department. Needless to say, the kids were thrilled, and we have a feeling that this won’t be the last time that PHFD assists Santa in the hamlet this year...

Last night at approximately 11:30pm Car 2191, E155 and L56 responded to Linden Place in Valhalla for a working fire. Quick work by the first arriving Valhalla u...nits on scene helped contain the fire to the original room of origin. Hawthorne crews assisted with overhaul of the Bravo side of the building to ensure no extension. Special Thank you to the Pocantico Hills Fire Dept for standing by at our HQ while our members operated at this scene. Photo credit: Kempters Fire Wire
