#inthestudio with @colinhunt03 who tediously mixes egg tempera to create his incredibly detailed and precise work. Egg tempera technique, which dates back to the Byzantine era, uses egg yolk as the binding agent for pigments. The paint is then thinned with water, which allows the artist to layer transparent glazes until the desired hue and opacity is achieved. #hirschlandadlermodern #eggtempera #contemporaryart

It’s the final week to see Marc Trujillo: Fast at the Monterey Museum of Art! He and fellow H&A artist, David Ligare, visited the museum last week. Trujillo paints from what he calls the middle ground of common experience, avoiding overt irony and fantasy. His scenes force us to look closely at the world around us, revealing truths that are often uncomfortable. #hirschlandadlermodern #contemporaryart #fastfood

Fluttering StillAngela Fraleigh’s first solo show at H&Aopens today! Fraleigh explores art history’s narrative and why certain tropes remain relevant, who they benefit, and how. The women in this series are not here to satisfy any outdated notion of their role in society nor the viewer’s predatory gaze. #hirschlandadlermodern #contemporaryart #feministart

Jeanne Brousseau’s imaginative animal army helped comfort and protect her from an abusive father. Her drawings first appear whimsical, but upon further examination tell a much darker tale. Come see this self-taught survivor’s work now in our Outsider Art Fair exhibition. #hirschlandadlermodern #oaf #selftaughtart #survivor
Bisquit refers to the garlands of unglazed porcelain flowers that adorn these vases. The laborious process of applying the delicate, individual petals and leaves means that few pieces such as these were made. As a child of five I embarked upon my artistic career by cutting out silhouettes of animals with a pair of broken-pointed scissors. For Hunt Diederich his childhood hobby became a life-long fascination and integral part of his career as an sculptor and metalworker. http://www.incollect.com/.../hirschl-and-adler-galleries... What can be used to write letters, embroider handkerchiefs, and store sewing projects? A Neo-Classical work table, of course! Nineteenth-century women used these small transportable tables for various tasks. They were incredibly functional pieces of furniture set on casters so they could easily be moved to where light and warmth were best. These tables were finished in the round so that they pleased the eye from every angle. www.incollect.com//d/hirschl-and-adler-galleries...-afa-shows English, Penwork Work Table in the Regency Taste, about 1800 #hirschlandadler #InCollect #AFA
