We hope you are all well and staying safe. We have been thinking about how we can keep our charge as a Historical Association to gather and maintain Sidney history. We recently received an email from the Documentary Heritage and Preservation Services for New York, part of which is copied below. It describes something we can do as an Association and encourage our membership and anyone who is interested to take part. Documenting the Now: Call for COVID-19 Impact Projects The C...OVID-19 pandemic is an unsettling event in the history of New York State. DHPSNY, the New York State Archives, and the New York State Library recognize the gravity of the situation and want members of the historic records community to prioritize their individual safety and public health in general. We also recognize that a number of organizations have begun working on projects to document the impact of the pandemic on their communities. If you have started or are considering undertaking such a project, we want to hear from you! Send a with a brief description of your project, or idea, and we will compile a directory of COVID-19 documentation projects in New York State. " We all know from being at the museum that the best parts of our collection are the reminisces, pictures, diaries, scrapbooks etc. that describe personal experiences. We could gather what will be our history as it is happening. I would like to start with your own experiences write them down, send emails or regular mail with your thoughts, experiences, pictures and we can begin to collect them and make them a part of the museum. Perhaps we could start with how the last 6 weeks have been for you and then we can do something monthly. Or you can come up with your own idea - just let me know and we can refine this project as we go. We can begin to collect your contributions and make them a part of the museum. Ultimately, we can send them to the NY State Museum. You can post here on our Facebook page or send your contribution at any time to [email protected] or to Sidney Historical Association at 10 Delaware Ave, Sidney. For now, since the museum is closed, we will not use the Grand Street address. There are so many of you who post interesting photos and are so interested in Sidney history. I hope we will hear from you about this historic event in our lives. Take care, be well and stay safe, Karen Cycon, Sidney Historical Association
