Evening garden walk. The garlic is looking great!
Feeling hopeful for a spring bouquet pop up sale in April and May. We have 3 beds dedicated to unique spring blooms for cut flowers this year.
This year Charlie and I spilt up jobs for indoor sowing. He has been starting the vegetables and I am starting the flowers this year. Field work - transplanting, planting, weeding, and harvesting we like to do together. 7 flower trays planted, only 6 are shown here because one variety needs complete darkness to germinate, so it is tucked away hiding from light right now. Today my job is to set up another stand so next weekend I can plant the remaining 10 flower trays of flowers that need to be started inside. Although direct sow in the ground varieties are my favorite, it is rewarding to grow varieties that need to be sown inside.
4th generation: Ellis Hoffman Sr. Born: March 3, 1953 Ellis’ favorite thing to grow is garlic because there is always something to do with garlic, you tend to it all year, it is always in a different stage which makes it enjoyable. Ellis can still be found at the Homestead especially during garlic planting and harvesting time. Sitting around an outdoor table preparing garlic to cure and braiding garlic with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren has become a favorite family event that everyone looks forward to.
3rd generation: Edward and Betty Hoffman Edward: Oct. 15, 1918-Sept. 28, 2010 Edward served with the U.S. Army during World War II. ... Betty: June 16, 1928 A Homemaker, known for her hospitality and beautiful gardens. Betty’s favorite farm chore was her driving route delivering eggs. Although they had 500 chickens and most eggs were picked up by truck and driven to NYC, she preferred the community connection she gained on her local route.
Merry Christmas, friends. This year for Christmas we ordered, received, and sorted most of our seeds for the next growing season. We will spend the next few months slowly planning and mapping out the garden beds as we sip warm cocoa and coffee. May your holiday season be a safe and peaceful one. We look forward to seeing you in the summer.
Thank you everyone for your support this growing season! This is our last week of our stand. We plan to take the stand down the evening of November 1. On the stand we have a few butternut, spaghetti squash, gourds and mini pumpkins left. Planning has begun for the 2021 growing season. Stay tuned for updates on our exciting changes. ...
