Someone's out in the cold waiting for us to open!
Happy New Year! We have now been continuously operating at the same location in midtown Manhattan in the center of NYC for 42 years. That's a record. And that's not including the five years before that when we were located across town or my first paid Holography job in 1968. Today, we are in the NY Post in a story on page 19. This last year has been a struggle and the future is uncertain. We've made it this far against all odds on our own without grants, corporate sponsors...hip, free space, or university funding. We exclusively display holograms in our gallery. We've worked with famous artists, musicians, scientists, and corporations creating hologram projects and portraits. Our interns have gone on to success in their unique fields, including Vince Gilligan, creator of Breaking Bad, John Gaeta, creator of the special effects of The Matrix trilogy, and Jason Corsaro who recorded David Bowie's Modern Love, Madonna's Like a Virgin, and Queen's We Are The Champions. They are Emmy, Grammy, and Academy Award winners. We have taught Holography to thousands of students and have given more tours than we can count. Please help us continue through this difficult time for all small businesses. You can make a donation or buy a hologram on our website. Thank you. See more
Today we remember fashion designer Pierre Cardin who has passed away at age 98. Pierre came to my studio in 1977 after seeing the portrait hologram I had shot of Andy Warhol. He immediately asked me to do one of him and one of his young "protege" Didier. He was the first billionaire I had met. He was much shorter than I realized. I got to hang out with him on a number of occasions. My very favorite Pierre story was when he was opening a storefront near the Hotel Pierre ...adjacent to Central Park. Us Magazine sent a photographer to capture him signing the window. His publicist gave him a paper cup filled with white paint and an artist's brush. He signed the window for a photo op and stepped back to me. I tapped his shoulder and whispered to him asking if Pierre was spelled with two "Rs". He realized that he had misspelled his own name and laughed. He then resigned it correctly. Just then out of the blue Henry Fonda dressed in a three piece suit with a leather soft attache case walked past us. Pierre held his hand to his mouth, and with his French accent asked me, "was that Henry Fonda?" I told him that indeed it was. Pierre's publicist, a conservatively dressed.middle aged woman from Rogers and Cowan realized that Fonda was also one of their clients and recognizing an opportunity, ran after him with her loud high heels clomping on the pavement. As she reached him at the corner, he must have heard the loud footsteps, and dramatically swung around with his suit jacket spreading out. He looked like a gunslinger about to draw. It was right out of Hollywood. They talked as we watched her point back at the two of us as we stood frozen in awe. She was trying to get him to pose with us, but he had no time and was already running late for a meeting. She walked back dejected. Pierre was just happy to have been that close to him. All I could think after being a step away from him was, "Wow, Henry Fonda has a hearing aid." Funny what you notice when time seems to stand still for a moment of shock and awe. See more
We're in the NY Post story about a new book featuring local businesses trying to make it through the pandemic.
Today's event at the Holographic Studios! Come visit!
Join us Wednesday, October 7th from 5pm - 8pm in NYC for the launch of our Pop Up Shop in coordination with Ari's Ziagos and Riot Science Productions. We've been refinishing furniture & creating one of a kind art pieces to fill the shop with intrigue and delight. Proceeds from the shop will go towards keeping Holographic Studios open & serving the public, forging a new way forward in these unusual pandemic times. We invite you to enjoy the installation, a tour, and a socially distanced open air party.
We are finally officially allowed to reopen! Tours must be booked in advance. We will be requiring masks and social distancing. Please contact us to reserve your space.
We need your help! Here at the epicenter of the virus, business is at a standstill and we cannot open, but our bills are piling up. Holographic Studios is the only place in the world where the public can come in for free yearlong and see a gallery exclusively showing three dimensional holograms, and we've been here since 1979! The interns who have passed through our program have gone on to become winners of Grammy, Emmy, and Academy Awards! We are not part of or supported by corporate money. We are a small business that has introduced generations of adults and children to laser science. Please help us continue on our mission. Your donation can make a difference. We need you now to help us keep the doors open! Your generosity can make a difference. Thanks! https://www.holographer.com//i-want-to-help-support-the-h/
Hi everyone. For 41 years Holographic Studios has been a New York institution. As you know we are at the epicenter of the crisis. That means as a non-essential business we have not been open for weeks, but the bills are mounting up and we need your help. Please consider helping us keep the doors open. Anything you can give helps! And thank you! https://www.holographer.com/supportthestudio/
AirBnb has just given us this badge for the Experiences they do here.

Airbnb has partnered with Atlas Obscura to present Experiences at our studio! It's a little different than the usual tour and a whole lot of fun. Come in for the jaw dropping images and walk away learning some really cool science.
My mail delivery had this book in it, sent to me as a gift from The Andy Warhol Museum. It's title is "A IS FOR ARCHIVE, WARHOL'S WORLD FROM A TO Z" by Matt Wribican and published by the Yale University Press. My portrait hologram of Andy Warhol is the full image taking up page 122. The Museum asked me to take the photo of my hologram. Andy came in and sat for me in 1977. He has clearly given me more than fifteen minutes of fame to paraphrase his quote. Thanks Andy!
