Hornell Public Library

Watch for special Facebook groups associated with the library. The first is called Hornell Public Library Patrons. Please feel free to request being added to the group. Other potential groups include a place to post book/author reviews and recommendations. Keep watch, all of these pages and groups will certainly get more active.

The library needs your help!!! As many of you know, the City of Hornell has pulled their funding for the library. This is critical! The library does receive other funding from grants and donations but it is not enough to maintain the service levels necessary to retain our charter. It is a very real possibility that the Hornell Public Library could close permanently. The board is trying very hard to find alternative funding and it all come down to a vote held for the citizens of the Town of Hornellsville. No date has been set for this vote but it should happen this summer. Keep watch for more information and please spread the word that a YES vote is vital to retaining a community centerpiece that has been providing services for 150 years.

The library hasn't been idle during our downtime. We're rearranging and installing the new carpet that was ordered before we shut down. This process is requiring us to weed more than 2000 books from our collection. These books will be available for people to take for free and never have to return. To help these books find good homes we will begin to put a cart or two in front of the library for a few hours each day that the weather permits. We will try to have a theme such as children's books, mysteries, non-fiction, etc and will try to post the theme here on our Facebook page to give you some idea of what you can expect to find so keep watching!

The Hornell Public Library has a new Facebook page. Due to our loss of funding from the City of Hornell the library has had to reduce staffing to a minimum. Because of this, we have had to lay off most of our staff including Marie Dunn who had maintained our Facebook for the past few years. We would like to thank Marie for all the work she has done with Facebook and other publicity functions.
