SHARED SENTENCES cast member Zudaydah Rivera shares her poem "68144" about her journey within the criminal justice system during her father's incarceration. Her story is one shared by millions of individuals with incarcerated family members and loved ones. SHARED SENTENCES explores these human experiences from the distinctive perspective of our massive population doing time on the outside.
When photos of a Latinx Heritage Month office party hit social media, two friends unpack the backlash, labels, and the nuances of race - but not without a few laughs along the way. Here's "Dia de los Muertos," written and performed by The Architects' Camilo Almonacid and Jenny Bacon:
Through the development of SHARED SENTENCES, we've connected with some inspiring organizations that are working towards reform within the criminal justice system and offer useful tools and assistance for those in need. Take a look at our resource list to learn more, and we look forward to sharing SHARED SENTENCES with you in the near future!

"They help anybody and everybody." Listen to New Hour member Adeline as she shares more about her experiences with her daughter's incarceration and how New HOUR for Women & Children LI assisted her and her grandchildren.
"Shared Sentences" tells the stories of family members effected by incarceration. New HOUR for Women & Children LI is an incredible organization centered around helping these very people! New Hour was founded on Long Island to provide meaningful support to current and formerly incarcerated women, their children and families. Their community-focused work also aims to reform unjust criminal justice system policies. To learn more, visit their website at https://www.newhourli.org/
This week we're highlighting a very special piece that is still in development, SHARED SENTENCES! Mass incarceration in our country affects millions of humans in ways that we seldom hear about. SHARED SENTENCES amplifies the stories of people that love and care for the incarcerated. The challenges this community faces often make it seem like they're serving a sentence of their own. Navigating our criminal justice system is harrowing, both literally and emotionally, and we were inspired to explore the human stories behind this massive system. Here are some photos from past presentations and the development of SHARED SENTENCES:
We've got two Tony-nominated producers to celebrate and we could not be more excited! Congrats to Houses on the Moon Board member Rashad Chambers (producer of Betrayal - Best Revival of a Play nominee) and Advisory Board member Jamie deRoy (producer of Tina - Best Musical nominee)!

We're thrilled to present this year's Mauricio Leyton Award to Sachin Jain and GHAR (Gay Housing Assistance Resource) in Mumbai India. Despite a historic Supreme Court of India decision in 2018, which decriminalized homosexuality, the LGBTIQ community in India faces many challenges regarding housing accommodations - including homophobia from landlords, neighbors, hostile housing societies, and more. G.H.A.R., (Gay Housing Assistance Resource) is a FREE all-India housing bulletin board for LGBTIQ people and allies who are or plan to be renters, roommates, flatmates, or owners in India.
This Thursday at Amplify 2020, we'll be celebrating this year's recipient of the Mauricio Leyton Award. Mauricio Leyton was a Chilean born, talented actor and a beloved, committed member of Houses on the Moon. He was a natural leader and activist, dedicated to helping both individuals and communities grow and come together. He tragically passed away on December 1st, 2013. Following his unexpected death, we created this award and grant to honor his memory. The Leyton Award i...s granted annually to an individual or organization that champions the unheard voice through community service. This year, we are thrilled to present the Mauricio Leyton to Sachin Jain and GHAR (Gay Housing Assistance Resource) in Mumbai India. "The need for this play is strong. The play explores the journey of acceptance and affirmation for a gender-atypical child. I hope, in a small way, it helps those struggling for the same." Houses on the Moon Co-Founder & writer/performer of "The Santa Closet," Jeffrey Solomon speaks to the power of live theater and the need for gender-atypical children to see themselves on stage.
