Our favorite day of the year turned out to be a cold one!! Thanks to all our volunteers that braved the cold and came down to help install the docks. Who else can’t wait to get out on the river? #hooraa View our story for a special visitor we saw on the Vassar dock.

After a couple of tense days, we want to share some lighthearted news about what’s been going on down at the boathouse in the new year. Since we packed up our equipment this fall, the HRRA site has been quiet, apparently providing the space for a pair of foxes to move in and enjoy the waterfront views! We have yet to determine if they’re new tenants at One Dutchess or just a couple of lost Marist College students out for a stroll. Either way, enjoy this snapshot our outdoor cameras caught of them enjoying the recent snowfall this past Monday!

While the docks may be out and our members huddled inside trying to keep warm, we'd like to take you back in time to the warm mornings of summer rowing with this video shot by Lucy Carr and edited by Mack Carr. Despite the chalenges of Covid, the coaches and athletes in this video were instrumental in helping us mobilize 125 people to scull this summer, almost as many people as our normal sweep and sculling programs combined during a regular summer! We want to thank you all for hanging tough with us through 2020, and we look forward to the day we can be out on the water together again! For those of you who can't wait until then, Winter Training is in full swing with more ergs still available for rent! #givingtuesday is less thank a week away! For generations, our stretch of the #hudsonriver has supported rowing of all ages and abilities, but this year was both particularly challenging and special for our broader rowing community here in the Hudson Valley. This Tuesday, December 1st your donation can help us keep rowing alive and well in the #hudsonvalley and teach a new generation of rowers and scullers to row on this beautiful body of water we call home.

Hudson River Rowing Association 03.10.2020

Here at HRRA, 2020 has been challenging for both our organization and our membership, but we've persevered! Through careful planning and the tireless work of our volunteers and staff, we were able to continue offering high-quality and affordable access to rowing for both kids and adults of all skill levels in a safe and friendly environment. We also taught dozens of new people how to scull and ended on a high note by turning out a club-record 170+ registrants this fall! But..., with that being said, we are not out of the proverbial woods yet. 2021 is already looking to bring increased financial strain and uncertainty to both HRRA and our tenant programs, and we need your help to ensure we continue to offer the high quality programs you've come to expect. We are almost an entirely volunteer run organization, and we rely on our great rowing community to help us continue providing rowing opportunities to those living in the Hudson Valley. So please join us in spreading the word and MARK YOUR CALENDARS for this year's Giving Tuesday on DECEMBER 1st, 2020! We know things have been tough this year, but if you are in a position to give, any amount you can spare is much appreciated!

Hudson River Rowing Association 29.09.2020

Please reach out to Matt Rignanese at [email protected] if you want to volunteer to help!

Thank you to everyone that helped out this morning to get the boathouse ready for winter. We will miss our amazing community as we head into winter. Stay tuned for the Holiday Challenge and winter training opportunities! #hooraa

Some nice fall vibes down at the river tonight.

Hudson River Rowing Association 17.06.2020

A message from our Club President: Attention Club Members, Coaches, & Parents: At HRRA, we've been dedicated to the safety of our rowing community during the pandemic. This includes wearing a mask 100% of the time while on the boathouse grounds (between the posts just to the north and south of the tarmac), observing proper social distancing and hand washing protocols. Even though we are able to remove our masks while on the water, they must be worn until you've launched from ...the dock and prior to your return to the dock. Masks also must be worn by spectators and parents between the posts and on benches. No exceptions. I trust that you and your fellow rowers, coxswains, coaches, and parents will all remind each other to adhere to this mask wearing policy. We appreciate the cooperation so that we can continue running our fall programs without incident. Thank you, Josh Stratton Club President

Who has plans to row in college? As many of you have probably seen in the tank room at the boathouse, one of our awesome volunteers and an HRRA board member, Sue Cerulli, tackled this pennant project last year to help recognize all junior boathouse members that have gone on to pursue rowing in college. Week 12 of our Remote Training plan is out now (https://drive.google.com//1wq7bPRwu6kGwERuYg9Awah9Ov/view). Additionally, as Dutchess County and the Mid-Hudson region more broadly begin opening up, we are beginning to execute a phased reopening of the boathouse! If you are interested in rowing this summer (and haven’t done so already), please fill out our Summer Rowing Google Form at https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSfkujIST9WstyHaa8/viewform . Additionally, if you are interested in coaching this summer with HRRA, please fill out our coaches application form here: https://docs.google.com//1BCeY0taklKPPeTQ1JSKVSvFZSiI/edit Our primary focus is to return people to the boathouse and get them on the water in a safe and orderly manner, and we hope to see you all down here at the River soon!

Hudson River Rowing Association 19.10.2019

With the Governor's announcement earlier this week that the Mid-Hudson region and the counties within it are clear to begin the slow process of re-opening, we want to let you know we haven't forgot about you! Our staff and board has been hard at work behind the scenes to come up with a phased reopening plan of our own in which rowing activities can resume in a safe and responsible manner. The unfortunate reality is that due to COVID-19, summer rowing at HRRA is going to loo...k quite a bit different than it has in years past. There likely won't be any racing, and definitely won't be any traveling to race. We're going to have to bring people down to the boathouse in shifts to limit congestion in the boat bays, and everyone is going to need to wear a face covering when they're not on the dock. There's also going to be a lot more cleaning, both of the washing hands and washing boats variety. Last but not least, we won't be able to use the big boats we are accustomed to for some time... no eights, no fours, no sweep rowing in general. But, with a little bit of time and a whole lot of patience, we hope to be able to get as many of you as possible onto the Hudson this summer via small boats, a prospect that we know will excite many of you. In order to do this, we need your help. We have put together a survey (https://forms.gle/K9prAgFZMWkqSny38) with the aim of letting us to get to know you better. It asks for your contact data, a few questions about your rowing history/experience, and some basic health info. This will allow us to filter and better reach the people we need to when the time comes to reopen while allowing us to build up the infrastructure we need to teach/provide a refresher to those who need to sharpen up their skills in a sculling boat. Be sure to pass this on to any of your rowing friends and teammates so we can try to get the most accurate representation of our membership possible! We hope you're all doing well, spending lots of time outside, and we look forward to getting people back on the water soon! As Dutchess County and the Mid-Hudson Region are moving to a Phase 1 opening this week, be on the look-out for more updates from us in the next two weeks regarding how we plan to start our reopening and bring you back to the boathouse safely!

We wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude to everyone that helped us last week make this year’s #hvgives day our most successful yet! Though the Hudson Valley has been hit with some hardships recently, our rowing community has shown that they will help us power through! Thank you! The support has been overwhelming. If you didn’t have a chance to participate, gifts are still being accepted on HVGives until the end of the month. This #throwbackthursday, we try to soften the blow of missing this year's IRA Regatta due to COVID-19 with an awesome picture of the 1906 IRA when it was held right here on our own stretch of the Hudson River! Starting just north of the Culinary Institute of America, Varsity crews would race 4-Miles under the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park to just below the Mid-Hudson bridge, drawing tens of thousands of spectators on both sides of the river to watch these colleg...iate oarsmen duke it out! Additionally, last year, we began working in partnership with Mid Hudson Rowing Association to bring a modern version of this Poughkeepsie Regatta back to the Hudson Valley each fall. While the fate of this year's regatta is still uncertain due to the pandemic, we hope to be able to once again be able to bring crews, their families, and spectators from all over the northeast to Poughkeepsie when this is over to be able to take part in this historic event once more! With more than two full months of quarantine in the books, we’ve been inspired by the resilience and dedication of our membership and are working tirelessly to make make sure the boathouse and the equipment in it are ready for reopening. Additionally, due to a surge in recent requests, we would like to clarify that HRRA does NOT have any additional ergs for rent, as we rented them back in early April. Although we are disappointed that this pandemic has halted international racing and we won’t be able to see him compete for a spot on the team, we are proud that his work ethic has gained some well-deserved recognition. It's National Volunteers Week, and because of that, we'd like to give a special shout out to the platoon of dedicated volunteers that not only founded this club but continue to keep it running smoothly up to the present day. For most of its history, HRRA has been nearly entirely run by volunteers dedicated to the club's mission to expand access to the sport of rowing and provide a community anchor on the Poughkeepsie waterfront for the greater Hudson Valley. Every regatta ...you may have attended down here on the floodplain was staffed by volunteers as well, from the people up at 4:00am to work the parking lots to the officials up on the porch timing, collecting, and disseminating results and even the aligners and safety marshals out on the water. All of these people volunteer their time to ensure things go off without a hitch and are the reason why we're able to bring you the services and performance you've come to expect from HRRA. Not only do these volunteers help us in our day-to-day operations, but even in this time of national crisis during the COVID-19 Lockdowns our members have heeded the call for help and have been volunteering their labor and expertise to help us perform essential boathouse maintenance we wouldn't otherwise be able to do in the middle of a busy spring season. We're incredibly grateful for their service, and hope you'll be able to return to the site soon so see all the great work they've done. If you or a friend/family member is interested in helping out around the boathouse, please be sure to contact Matt at [email protected]. Thank you to all of the volunteers that help us keep this place running, we can't wait to show you our appreciation once things are reopened!

Calling all volunteers! Response to the last request for volunteers was great, with many of the tasks already completed or currently being worked on. We have updated the list with new tasks. Once again they can be completed by one or or two people in a couple of hours while maintaining social distancing and adhering to all the guidelines put forth by the local, state, and federal governments. If you are interested in volunteering and completing any of these task please emai...l Matt Rignanese at [email protected] so we can schedule a time for you to work. With the boathouse being closed you can work any day of the week and at any time and for how ever long you want! We want to schedule times so we don't have too many people on site at one time, again for your safety. We also ask that you bring your own tools so we are not sharing tools and other equipment. HRRA will provide items such as cleaners, garbage bags and other items but of course if you wish to donate any items we would greatly appreciate it. It's a great time to spend some time outside and not worry about being in a crowd or around others while helping prepare the building and grounds for our eventual "grand re-opening! The Tasks are as follows: -Power wash the buildings - Repair and paint the pillars under the porch - scrape and paint the walk bridge - Clean gutters and repair seam above bay 3 - Truck - clean inside and out and wax. - rake, week and trim Plant Beds under the Parking lot lights - Clear Brush/small trees against the southern fence - rake and clean up the southern field - Windows - clean and wash - dust and clean the track lighting in the regatta room - Regatta Room Carpet - the carpet is in desperate need of cleaning, HRRA will rent the machine if someone want to take on this task

Good Afternoon HRRA! Spring is coming, and with it a number of basic maintenance tasks that need to be done to keep the boathouse and grounds in tip-top shape for our eventual re-opening. Generally, these are the kinds of projects we get done during our annual River Sweep clean-up day, which has also been cancelled. Our Building and Grounds Director has created a list of some of basic boathouse maintenance tasks and broken them down so they can be completed by one or or two ...Continue reading

As we continue to follow guidelines provided by our government and health officials, we have made the tough decision to cancel all upcoming free Intro-to-Row sessions. We may look to reschedule these in future months. We hope our community continues to stay safe during these unprecedented times and we look forward to a time when we can congregate again at the river.

For those that have an erg and continue to train at home, USRowing has provided a webinar on how to utilize the erg for more than just training purposes. It's a long video but has many good pointers for those looking to improve their technique as well as physical fitness. Please continue to stay safe everyone! https://www.youtube.com/watch
