READ THAT AGAIN and let it sink in. Indigenous cultures have long held a deep connection and reciprocal relationship with nature. They believe humans and nature are equal and interdependent and therefore, have guarded and protected the environment out of respect for their ancestors and to secure their future. Beautiful, right? Now contrast this to our industrialized, urban society where we have a tendency to see ourselves as separate from nature. ... Most of society tends to view nature as a commodity, something owned, bought, sold, and used. We can clearly see this in language terms like natural resource and land development. Hallooo, what?! Is the land unfinished if humans don't intervene or something? The environment itself does NOT have a voice in how decisions are made on its behalf. THAT'S WASSUP! It's not uncommon for progress and change to feel uncomfortable because there is ALWAYS something to give up. Whether it's a belief, a habit, a person, a food, or even time--there will inevitably be a sacrifice. At times it seems that worldly injustices are fought with the same type of thinking that we're seemingly trying to eradicate. Likely because we jump headfirst into the solution without much thought, and we apply the first prevailing idea that's usually hyped up by the media. On the other hand. the more time we spend understanding a problem, the more effective the resolution. Wise and intelligent people don’t jump into solution mode quickly, especially when it comes to compl...ex global issues that need thorough time and research to be properly diagnosed. Instead, they ask themselves, which other factors are at play here? and they go deeper into the problem. You can not approach a solution with a mindset that created the problem in the first place. If the only tool you have is a hammer, you'll tend to see every problem as a nail. Deep thinking and critical analysis will NOT offer instant gratification...and you bet it will make you uncomfortable, but not giving complex issues the attention they deserve will offer scanty solutions that only cause a divide. Keep an open mind and consider all options, regardless of how irrelevant they appear. Hhhhhaaaaaaaa......let's take a moment to just sit with nothing else but our breath. Taking just 5 minutes a day with this daily practice along with a 10 min daily exercise routine can help to break up stagnant energy in the body than can contribute to stress and ultimately dis-ease. Now more than ever we collectively need to consistently engage in more ways to reduce depression and stress in order to enhance our well-being. Drop a and in the comments if you agree. . .... If getting into a routine has been a challenge for you, start with baby steps and set your morning alarm just 20 minutes earlier. Try 5 minutes of just paying attention to your breath followed by 3 minutes of crunches and 3 minutes of pushups. Every day you can add another 3 minutes of a new exercise until you reach your ideal time limit. Remember that if your internal dialogue goes off and starts talking you out of doing what's important to you, you must be prepared in advance to contest these limiting beliefs. Remind yourself that the physical and mental benefits of exercise have long been established. Studies show that it is very effective at reducing fatigue, improving alertness and concentration, and at enhancing overall cognitive function. I think farmers get a bad rap and are greatly underappreciated. We can easily forget that without them we wouldn't have the assorted bounty that we heedlessly dig our forks into on the daily. It's true that there are a large number of farmers that use unsustainable and inhumane practices, but this doesn't mean we should vilify the entire industry. There are plenty of good intentioned farmers out there, large and small, who work hard to put food on our tables and are passionate and loving in their methods.
