Long time no post! It was a beautiful hiatus away from social media. We excel with the human connection, not so much the digital one #socialmediasucks. It was a crazy wierd season with covid. We had a record season despite having lost all of May and most of June, our peak months. Thank you to all who came to the ADK’s this season and kept our area afloat. It was a pleasure to share our rivers with you all despite covid wreaking havoc. Fire on the Mountain last night @whiteface_mt #bearsden. There is a crazy amount of people camping on state land because the state campgrounds are closed. We have extremely dry conditions in the Adirondacks. Please do not make fires this weekend. There have been four forest fires this week.Luckily this was the extent of the damage to a pristine rec area. PLEASE NO FIRES. Please spread the word. @ Wilmington, New York

More bug soup. Take away : When you first hit pocket water fish a tandem rig with one fly imitating larger insects (stones, dragon flies, large cased Caddis) as your point/ anchor and the other fly imitating smaller insects (Hendricksons, yellow sallies, sulphurs, small cased caddis). When you notice fish are keying in on one fly or size over the other than fish two identical flies to maximize your chances. This is one reason it’s good to have your go-to patterns tied in different weights. A #8 weighted girdle bug, in tandem with a totally unweighted #8 girdle bug is deadly combo. May 7th Bug fest on the West Branch of the Ausable River. Water temp was approx 48 degrees. Notice the movement on almost every species in the video. The take away: before you change flies, give them movement. Use different presentations with every pattern and always move / twitch your fly before you move or change flies. Take away no.2: Time to plan your trip! We are Currently taking LODGING and GUIDING reservations for June! No deposits necessary as we understand this time ...requires a fluid plan.
