Active Minds at Ithaca College 12.05.2021

"My brother, Brian, died by suicide 20 years ago. Brian made you laugh, challenged what you knew or thought you knew, and just made you feel good. He was my bes...t friend and I miss him every day. I started Active Minds in his honor to open the conversation about mental health so no one ever feels alone and I’m continually inspired by the community of hope his legacy has built. Grieving takes time, and there are still moments, even 20 years later, where the pain and the memories make it seem like I just lost Brian yesterday. This Survivor Day, and every day, I hope you take all the grace and time you need to remember your loved ones and find a way - big or small - to honor them. - Alison Malmon, Founder and Executive Director of Active Minds #SurvivorDay

Here’s another throwback! I did an episode about mental health conversations with a dear friend of mine, and recent Ithaca alumni, Kelly Madden. In this episod...e we both talk about stigma around mental illnesses, resources available to students and our personal lives experiences with mental health. Since I’ve known Kelly, she has been an advocate for mental health resources and bringing awareness to mental illness. Kelly majored in Psychology and was President of Active Minds at Ithaca College and was part of BOLD Women at Ithaca College. She currently is enrolled in a fellowship at the Active Minds headquarters. Sharing your journey with mental health can inspire others and often save lives. Most people want to know that they are not alone and that they matter. It's Co...nnection Day, and we encourage you, if you're comfortable, to share your story with a person you trust to start changing the conversation about mental health. See more
