Devotion for January 27, 2021: "Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil." 1 Thessalonians 5: 19-22 Paul instructs the Christians how we should live our daily lives, and he shows us:... * Do not quench the Spirit! We need to allow the Holy Spirit to have His way in our lives. We cannot allow anyone or anything to quench the Spirit in our lives. We need to fan into flame the Holy Spirit in our lives. To quench something means put it out, and we need more of the presence, and power of the Holy Spirit in our lives on a daily basis. We need to stay filled with the Spirit. * Do not despise prophecies. We cannot despise the prophetic Word of God, but we need to know the word to test prophecies. There are lots of people who want to prophesy but all prophecies must line up to the Word of God. * Test everything. That means that we need to test everything we hear, to the Word of God. We need to ask God for wisdom and discernment to see if it is of God! We need to ask the Lord to give us ears to hear what the Spirit is saying. * Hold fast to what is good. We need to do those things that are pleasing in God's sight. Stay away from sin, evil, and the practices of this world. * Abstain from every form of evil. As a follower of Jesus, we should stay away from anything that is sinful. God's Word tells us that we need to avoid the very appearance of evil. HOW DO WE LIVE THIS WAY? By the Word of God and the Holy Spirit's presence in our lives. Lord, in this world today, I need to be a doer of the Word, and I need to be filled with the Spirit!

Devotion for October 25, 2020: "The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully." 2 Corinthians 9:6 Here is a law or principle in God's kingdom but also in life. This does not just deal with our money, but with our time, talents, tithe and our temple (bodies).... * Whatever you sow is what you are going to reap. The amount you sow will determine the amount you reap in life. If we sow sparingly, you cannot expect to reap much from the Lord or from the natural world. If you sow only a little seed into the ground, you cannot expect to reap a great big harvest. Whatever we so in life is what we are going to reap. * What you sow is what you will reap in life. If you sow corn, you are going to reap corn. If you sow beans, you are going to reap beans. In the spiritual sense, if you sow to the flesh then you are going to reap to the flesh, and if you sow to the spirit, then you are going to reap to the spirit. We cannot sow corn and expect to get beans. You cannot sow to the flesh, and expect to reap in the Spirit. This is a law of God, what you sow is what you will receive in life. * You will always reap more than you sow in life. If you plant one seed of corn, you will reap more than you sow. Same in the spiritual sense, you sow to the Spirit, you will always reap more. We must continue to sow our time, talents, tithe and our temples (bodies). What are you sowing, investing and giving your life too, will determine what you reap in this life and for all of eternity! Lord, help me to be a good sower!
