Devotion for April 15, 2021: "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the L...ord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven." James 5: 14-15 If we are going to pray or to be prayed for then we need the PRAYER OF FAITH! Faith is what pleases God! The person in need must have faith and the person praying needs faith in God! Look at the process: * Is anyone sick? It does not say what kind of sickness, something small or something large. But if you are sick then you need the prayer of faith. When we are sick do we even stop to pray that the Lord will heal us, protect us, keep us from sickness? * Let him call for the elders of the church to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. If you are sick?James says to call for the elders of the church. Why would not someone sick call for prayer? To call for prayer is an act of faith by the person that is sick. It is saying, Lord I am going to obey Your Word and call for the elders to pray and anoint me. Today, we wait for the elders to call and see if everything is okay. Instead of the person that is sick to call the elders. This is faith in action, by the person that is sick. * Then the elders are to anoint with oil, and the prayer of faith will save the one sick, and the Lord will raise him up. The prayer must be a person of prayer and faith! Why would we want someone to pray for us that does not have faith to believe that God will do what He says that He will do. The sick person has faith to believe in God's Word, and the person praying has faith to believe in God's Word. We need this kind of faith in the church that God will do what He says in His Word. * Look at the result: "And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Healing is not just about the physical healing, but it also means: Spiritual healing! We need healing in every area of our lives, we need saving in every area of our lives. Lord, help me to realize today that Your Word is still true today! Help me to respond to Your Word in my life when I am in need, and when I am asked to pray! Lord, help us to do our part (asking and praying) and then You will do Your part (saving, forgiving and healing)! Do it again Lord!
