Tuesday, April 6th at 7:30 PM Eastern Time over Zoom. Join us for the incredible honor of hearing a Holocaust survivor share his story in a private Zoom room followed by a Q&A session where all can participate. Steven Hess, a Pittsford resident, and Holocaust educator will share his personal story of survival on Tuesday, April 6th at 7:30 PM Eastern Time over Zoom.... Steven and his twin sister, Marion were born in Amsterdam on January 14, 1938. His parents, Ilse and Karl, fled Germany two years earlier believing that Holland would provide a safe haven. With the invasion of the Nazis in May 1940, however, hope for a neutral Holland was shattered. In mid-1943, his family was taken to Westerbork, the Dutch transit camp that served as a gateway to Auschwitz, Theresienstadt and Bergen Belsen. The following February they were sent to Bergen Belsen where conditions were so horrific that by the end of the year, nearly 15,000 Jews died each month from starvation, disease, neglect, and maltreatment. Marion and Steven were among very few children to stay alive. Join Hillel at Ithaca College for this important evening in which we will witness the story of one survivor and reaffirm our commitment that genocide should never happen again. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Lauren Goldberg at [email protected] or (607) 274-3103. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.

#Alumnialert Jordan Frey, ENVS '15 works as a data scientist. At ENVS, Jordan worked on the Ithaca College Natural Lands. He says, Working with ICNL did give m...e direction at a time where, in retrospect, I was quite directionless. It jumpstarted my own ideas of the kind of work I wanted to do, and gave me room to explore these interests outside the classroom. It certainly influenced my decision to go into GIS, though; I saw the utility of GIS for land and natural resource management. I was using GIS (at a basic level) to plan areas for American chestnut reintroduction. I thought that technology was very cool at the time, and years later, I still do!"
