IDHA Alumni Spotlight Fadia Mahdi, Fordham GSAS International Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance alumna, is a Supply Chain Planner for the International Committee of the Red Cross. Fadia's spark to build a career in humanitarian aid began from a young age, born in Iraq during the 1990 Gulf War when the ICRC headquarters building next to her school was destroyed. Her school was shut down for three weeks to fix the shattered windows and broken doors. While initially studyin...g computer communication engineering, through her passion and hard work, she worked with the ICRC for the last five years and was recently promoted to Supply Chain Planner. When reflecting on her time in the IDHA program, she notes, "[the] IDHA gives you a thorough picture of the whole humanitarian process. To be a good humanitarian, you have to understand the whole picture and how that impacts the people who are waiting for the aid that we are giving them." IDHA Alumni Spotlight Patricia Cole, Fordham GSAS International Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance 37 alumna, is the UN Representative for ECPAT-USA, an anti-trafficking policy organization. Her work consists of advocating and promoting ECPAT's mission to member states and various UN specialized agencies such as UNICEF, UNODC, and UN Women. While prepping for the 65th session of the NGO Commission on the Status of Women where ECPAT-USA will present an expert panel entitl...ed "No Child Left Behind: Ending Social Discrimination that Makes Children Vulnerable to Trafficking," Patricia shares her journey to humanitarian work, the IDHA and ECPAT-USA. During the IDHA, Patricia reflects that "It was an in-depth immersion and orientation to the stark and challenging humanitarian-in-field reality."
