The answer to yesterday's trivia question is c) the time of year the leaves are harvested. Estate teas from the Darjeeling region of India, in particular, are referred to by their flush. The first flush is the first harvest of the year, which is usually March into April. The second flush follows and ends usually in June, before the summer rains arrive and the Monsoon flush begins. The autumn flush is usually late September to early November. The flush is one of the main defining characteristics of Darjeeling teas, as the teas from each flush are very different from the others. We offer teas from the Glenburn Estate and their black and wulong teas from different flushes. Taste them to experience their unique differences! :)

Oriental Beauty (AKA White Tip Bai Hao) Formosa Wulong Tea and Shou Pu-er Tuo Cha are now back in stock! The bug-bitten mid-oxidized wulong from Hsinchu County in northwestern Taiwan is aromatic, flavorful and medium-bodied with peach, honey and woody notes. The tuo cha is a formed Shou Pu-er tea from the Yunnan Province in China that is formed in the shape of a mini "bird's nest". The leaves infuse up rich, deep and full-bodied with earthy, sweet, and mushroom notes.

Today's tea pick is Makinoharo Estate Genmai Hojicha Green Tea. A style of brown rice tea, it is produced on the Pacific coast in the low-lying area of the city of Makinohara in the Shizuoka Prefecture of Japan. This estate is the largest tea plantation in Asia and it produces about 30% of the tea in Shizuoka. The region benefits from a humid, temperate, marine climate and is ideal for growing tea. Our Genmai Hojicha is a blend of Sencha and Kukicha that has been aged for fou...r years, then roasted and blended with roasted and puffed brown rice. The blend yields a smooth, and flavorful, medium-bodied infusion with a rich, savory, roasted and toasted aroma and taste that is deeper and richer than Genmaicha. The roasting process reduces the amount of caffeine in the leaves. We are sampling this tea today, so feel free to stop by to try some! :) See more

Just a reminder that the 20th Annual Women's Expo LI is this Thursday 12/10! This year the Expo will be held virtually, instead of in its usual location at the Middle Country Public Library, and I will include the event link in this Thursday's facebook post. The Expo features hardworking, creative and talented women entrepreneurs from Long Island and there will be lots of great gift options for the upcoming holiday season, so be sure to visit the booths of all of this year's ...exhibitors. Details are communicated on the Expo's facebook page https://www.facebook.com/WomensEXPOLongIsland and I will communicate them as well, so stay tuned! There is a raffle again this year and once again I have donated a tea gift basket. The link to see the prizes is https://go.rallyup.com/wexpoli20 and you may purchase your entries at this link, as well, until the deadline at 5 PM on Thursday. Good luck! :) See more

The answer to yesterday's trivia question is d) all of the above. Lemon balm and skullcap are wonderful caffeine-free, nervine herbs that are great options for supporting the nervous system and helping to reduce the negative effects of stress. But these are not the only ones! In addition, all of the true teas from the Camellia sinensis plant - black, green, wulong, white, yellow, dark are also great options for supporting the nervous system. The theanine in tea helps to relax the nervous system and reduce stress. Cheers! :)
