Today we celebrate Women’s Equality Day, commemorating the day when American women achieved the constitutional right to vote (in 1920). This special day is proclaimed each year by the US President in order to protect this constitutional right and pledge to continue fighting for equality for women and girls. as quoted by President Obama in 2016. Gender inequality in STEM reported earlier this year in Nature and based on a study of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) member... database of more than 60,000 members from 144 countries showed a competitive disadvantage for women in the Earth and Space Sciences. The AGU has since challenged the scientific community to act and support gender balance initiatives as crucial for scientific progress. Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls are also part of the 5th sustainable development goal of the United Nations (UN) to transform our world. The project Girls InSpace aligns well with the mission of AGU and the goals set forth by the UN, aiming to educate and promote development of young girls in underrepresented communities. We are thankful for all the support the project has receiving since it was first presented during the UN workshop for the International Space Weather Initiative.
