Bringing light to a Broken World . As I am going through the motions of healing trauma, I find myself encountering painfully strong emotions born from feelings of intense fear, injustice, lack of generalized safety, anger, and extreme disappointment in the systems in place designed to protect the people. . It’s one thing to educate oneself on the disparities that exist between brown and black communities and white one’s, believe in the necessity of reform of the RPD and... our local mental health care system, but it’s a whole different animal to live it in one’s own life and feel the painful brokenness of it all in one’s own body. . For those of you who know me, you know I have been through a lot of shit, and still, STILL remain positive we are on the precipice of a monumental shift for the better in how we value ourselves, one another, humanity at large, and the earth that supports us. It starts with action. Energy follows action. We need to step it up. All of us. Please. . Some crazy stuff happened this morning. I don’t think I’ve ever been so afraid of serious violence being inflicted against me or someone I love as I was today. I am sad that some people carry so much unprocessed pain and emotion, it spills over and causes harm to the innocent. I am sad that a mental health episode can completely hyjack a persons psyche. It happens every day to someone, somewhere. It’s utterly heartbreaking the way this cycle persists and can serve as a genera...tor or more pain and trauma. . In all of the broken emotions and broken glass over turned today, I uncovered fully intact @blessthemessy treasure that once lived on the back windshield of my car. I still believe this to be true now more then ever. One just has to be open to the signs and remember gratitude in all things and experiences. . We are safe. We are whole. Day of Giving . Although it is true that everyday we should be keeping this notion in mind, giving of ourselves, our time and talents when ever able or feels appropriate. Today is a special day, however where we are asked to collectively keep the spirit of the season in mind and in heart by giving to a cause, organization or individual who may be in need. Way of the Healer necklace . We are all healers, because we all have our own wounds to discover and tend to. In identifying what those are through noticing, observing, feeling and reflecting, we give these wounds the attention they deserve and need from us. We invite them from the shadows of our psyche into the light of love, peace, acceptance and safety. Why? Because we are not our wounds and traumas. They don’t have to define us, but they hold the power to shape us. The...y are tools, that once discovered, can transform us. All of us. As we do this work, we show others it’s okay to go within themselves and tend to their own internal garden, no matter how abandoned. At the end of last week, it came to my attention that our beloved @rocbrainery had reached a point where drastic community wide support was needed in order for them to survive the days and months ahead. . For those of you who aren’t already familiar, The Brainery is an incredible resource within our Rochester community, creating jobs for those who are eager to share their passions and boundl...ess learning opportunities for those on the receiving end. @theadornedstudios would not exist if it wasn’t for the ground work the Brainery had been laying for years before it’s inception. I for one am a very grateful recipient of the many learning opportunities the brainery has given me both as a student and as a teacher. . So I’m here today with a couple of Interstellar gifts to raffle off on their behalf. What does it mean to be an Ally? . Being an Ally is an ongoing process of self education, and thoughtful, effective action. It is intentional, considerate and involves taking on another individual or groups suffering as your own, even though you have not directly experienced it. It means using your privilege and its power for good. Standing up for the rights, humanity and dignity of those in need with direct care and support. . You ACT as an Ally. ... You LOVE as an Ally. You LISTEN as an Ally. And most importantly, you are STEADFAST as an Ally. . I don’t often work in wax but was stirred awake a couple weeks back as the fight for racial equality and justice was becoming very real for us all in the wake of George Floyd’s tragic death.
